I'll start this one
..cant let the great white season go by without watching The Little Gutter Snipes (1943)..marvelous film with a wartime message that pertains to all we're experiencing in these troubles times..and Bing Crosby as the warm handed priest who takes Freddie Bartholomew into his home is a performance that always makes all four of my humours overflow...and that unforgettable title tune (written by a son of Abraham no less)..if it doesnt make you realize what Christmas is all about, then you dont deserve a stocking stuffer.
"...and may all your witnesses be christ"
White Christmas
The Bishop's Wife (the original with Rex Harrison)
You guys have listed some great ones. Got to admit I've never seen the Little Gutter Snipes, but sounds like a good one.
Bishop's Wife with Cary Grant and David Niven is one of my all time favs. I prefer Holiday Inn over White Christmas though.
But the all time best is the Alastair Sim version of the Christmas Carol.
My Man Godfrey and old one called the Jokers are also great Christmas fare.
Pat Hacker, Visit Scooter's World.
...no particular order or number:
Scrooged (always a pleasure to watch Bill Murray work; Bob Goldthwait wasn't bad, either).
A Christmas Story (shot in Cleveland- gotta represent! Never wanted a leg lamp so much in my life).
Christmas in Connecticut (the original with Barbara Stanwyck...just because. Has that edgy, '40's, screwball quality about it. Kinda like how was revisited Hero- the Capra "parody" with Dustin Hoffman and Geena Davis. But I don't think that was set at Xmas).
and Elf's starting to grow on me, too...
...and it simply wouldn't be Christmas without Santa Claus Conquers The Martians. :D
"...It is a foolish mistake to even try to second-guess the public. Make things for yourself and if by chance someone agrees with you, it's coincidental."
--Julian Schnabel
i believe you all are forgetting a little something. (except for the guy who mentioned it)
A Christmas Story.
Youll shoot your eye out!
What other movie could you watch for 24 hours?
"who wouldn't want to make stuff for me? I'm awesome." -Bloo
A Christmas Story is my all time favorite! Wow that leg lamp.....just wow!
I also like, The Polar Express and The Santa Clause but A Christmas story has my first vote!
Thanks, phacker. Somehow I put Rex Harrison into David Niven's role. Oops!
Damn old brain...:D
I generally dislike Christmas movies because of the sap factor... But I've always had a soft spot for "It's a Wonderful Life."
I've never heard of "Little Gutter Snipes" before, but it sounds pretty interesting.
...well, if you like that one then you'll definitely love Wear Your Woollies (1944), a non-stop laugh feast by the classic comedy writing team of Alces and Sciurus.. the hi-jinx level in this holiday film has never been topped (IMHO)...the mix up at the crêche scene (imagine a lawn jockey in the manger) is a gut buster...that and a final Christmas message to the troops by a little known general called Eisenhower! ..all in glorious B&W (except for the special technicolour song sequence with Dinah Shore, singing "That's Not My Stocking You're Stuffing")
Currently I don't have a favorit movie favorite movie, but I use to like all the ones listed so far. I got really burned out on them when they started showing then nonstop for weeks at a time. (The exaggerations is for effect.) :D
