Congrats to Matt Shumway! Out of curiosity how do they nominate specific animators from the entire team on the project for the annie award? i.e. what made them stand out in an industry that usually give glory to the directors?

Thanks Larry!

We had a really fantastic animation crew, the best I have ever worked with. Our animation Director was another "Lauria Alum", Richie Banehham

It truly was a fantastic experience, I haven't even seen the whole movie yet. I have my tickets for Friday night though!

Rob,

Thanks for the congrats.

The process is pretty simple, Rhythm and Hues put together a reel of just my shots from the film, so the Annie judging is based solely on the individual's contribution to the film. Ofcourse I have to thank our kick ass modeling, tracking, rigging, roto, techanim, lighting, and compositing teams for making my animation look sweet.

Thanks again guys!

-Matt

Must have been a fun gig Matt! I'm rooting for ya!

Which character Matt?

Hello again.

Hey Matt, was there a specific character or a compilation of work?

Thanks.

Ah! Now I have to go and see Narnia. I must admit I was a little undecided at first.

Hello again.

Hey Matt, was there a specific character or a compilation of work?

Thanks.

Well, a little of both.

Although I did work on several characters in the movie (fauns, centaurs, werewolfs, satyrs, ankleslicers, Minotaurs, Minoboars, leopards, cheetahs, and gryphons) The only shots that were sent for nomination were my Aslan (the Lion) shots. There were about 9-10 of us (animators) that did the majority of Aslan's hero work. So they asked for a list of just my Aslan shots, and thats what was cut together on a reel, and sent off.

I feel really lucky to have gotten to work on such a character, and work with so many talented people, and this nomination is the icing on the cake that has been a really fun experience with this movie.

Hey Matt, congratulations! I just saw Lion... this weekend with Shawn T. We both liked the movie. It was alittle slow at parts for me, but on a whole I liked it. Great work on Aslan. It looked like they cut that one scene shorter where Aslan jumps out at the camera. I remembered it being slightly longer on the trailer. Great work. Oh, and those gryphons were awesome! Blew Buckbeak out of the water.

On another note, those stills from you and your bother's movie look amazing! Is it going to be in theaters? You have to let us all know when it's going to be released.

Good luck at the Annies!
