www.abhimation.com/moush/Mouse.mpg

Thanx!

hey mouch,

nice animation loved it, and i also saw ur web site thats cool too. it was good to find that you are also in my stream too i'm also into character modeling and rigging but not as good and experienced as you are :).

i was just curious that as i'm an aspiring animator, i have finished facial modeling and animation part and soon to make my demo reel,"" DO self tought people like me with no art background are accepted in the our animation animation industry"", as you are the perfect mentor who can guide me.
please reply

cheers
mandeep

Hey Mandeep...thanx alot..

Btw the site u saw isnt mine...itz a friend's site...:)

Great to hear that you wanna get into this field...

It isnt necessary to have an art background to get into this field (though it helps but it isnt needed as such!).
N yeah, you can get in the industry without any formal education but you need to have a really strong showreel to get accepted.

As I deduce from what you wrote...you are basically into Rigging and Modelling rite...the first thing that you do before making your reel is decide what you want to specialize in. There are various aspects in animation...modellin, rigging, texturing, animation etc. You have to be wholly n solely specialized in only one area. Once you decide on something just concentrate on that aspect for your reel.

I think thatz pretty much it...I hope I answered all your queries...Do let me know if you have any more questions....

hey mouch thanx alot man, i'm glad to know that i can make it with out the useless diploma they provide anyways so here goes my history
i'm a 21ys old guy, i live in chandigarh (north india between punjab & haryana), just finished my BA. i am currently working as a graphic designer, i have self tought myself corel, adobe photoshop, 3ds max 7, maya 6.
i'm currently doing facial modelling and animation and that's about it about me.

now the bombardment of questions:
wat is the eligibility for the intern in animation companies? wat else should i learn ??

i m about to start to work on my show reel the main thinga that are bothering me are wat should i put on it?? all technical stuff or some of my style ?

how long should i make ?? how should i show it to them (the companies i mean )send them the cd's or go personally, i only know two studios mel and utv.

i'm also comfused about the field i should choose right know all the facial stuff is great but can i change my field later ??

lastly how much a person like me should expect to get paid, some people told me that for the first year don't expect any pay??

i know that's alot but i hope you can understand my restless position,
thanking you

cheers
Mandeep :)

Hey Mandeep

Okay first things first. If you are not sure about getting into this field then maybe you should give it a thought again...coz u really need to be passionate about it even before you enter the field. I have seen a lot of people just getting into animation for the heck of it but they dont survive long. Personally, I feel this doesnt make any sense. You need to be damn sure what career you want.

Humm...Now there isnt nethin like an eligibility to get into an animation studio...as I said before you have to show them a strong showreel that will showcase your specialization.

wat should i put on it?? all technical stuff or some of my style ?

I didnt quite get what you meant by that. But from what I can make of it....lemme try answerin that. Now, what to put in your reel all depends on what specialization you choose. If its a technical one then you ll have to put tech related stuff in your reel...if your taking up animation or any other creative aspect..then you need to show your creative talent.

The reel should be around 1 and a 1/2 min to 3 min...And put jus the best of the best work that you have on it...

While looking for a job...first contact the studios and take an appointment so you can show them your work. And lastly the pay, well please keep this in mind never ever work for free. I can give you an estimate of how much a trainee earns...its around 6-8k a month. But, that again varies from studio to studio.

Neway, I hope I answered all your questions. What I would suggest is first decide what career you want. If you are doing well in your current job...you can decide to stick to it then. If you are really passionate about animation then you can decide to join in. But, then again as I mentioned earlier...please decide on your specialization...itz very important!

All the best then!

hey thanks mouch,
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU ..... you really don't have any idea that i how many ways you have helped me, its really been a pleasure talking to you i really really appreciate your immidiate replies.

reg my question i think i fumbled wat i really meant was that should i show the bookish stuff in the show reel e.g. atlas lift, walk cycle and stuff like that or some of my style ?? i think you gur\essed it and yes you have answered all my queries. just got one more for you as right know i'm into modelling and rigging that stuff excites me the most but can i specialise in many fields simuntaniously like charachter modelling and animation ??

one again i really appreciate your help, i won't forget you man !!
and i'll send you my show reel first as soon as i finish it

once again thank you (i hope there was i bigger word than that if it is then i'll give you that :))

cheers
mandeep

Hehe no sweat dude....

can i specialise in many fields simuntaniously like charachter modelling and animation ??

Okay see if you want to get into a bigtime studio then its absolutely necessary to have just one specialization! Though the smaller studios prefer to hire generalists...that is who know a litle bit of everything....

What I would suggest is if you like modellin & rigging just concentrate on those aspects then! Rigging has a lot of scope in the industry. So think about it.

Anyway, so if I were you I d have got goin on that showreel already! So good luck on that!

thanks alot man, will keep all that in mind and i have set 31st dec for my show reel so i hope i'll be able tomake it (i really really hope).
you are a really helpfull man, anyways next time you'll see me with a bombastic show reel :)

thanks again mouch,
cheers
