It appears that The Cartoon Network will be canceling the Teen Titans animated series after this season. If you are a Teen Titans fan and wish for the show to continue, then please help save the Teen Titans animated series from cancellation by sending in this petition.

Spread the word, tell your friends, tell your neighbors, tell your pets, tell everyone.

Thanks for the support.

Hmmm...

Aaah, the email attack. That reminds me...

A few years back, I was talking to Linda Simensky when she was at Cartoon Network. She was showing some of the new projects CN had to some of my classmates. She talked about how there was this coalition of fanatics on the Internet who flooded CN with emails, trying to get them to buy and air the old Filmation He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoons. Whoever had the rights to it was asking a large amount of money for it, and CN wasn't about to pay that much for that old show.

Linda said "The hell with it, we'll make our OWN He-Man show, and they can just deal with it."

Not sure if that will work this time. Linda's at PBS now, and I'm not sure if the new guard will fall for it.

oh, and P.S., to quote Morpheus from The Matrix, "Fate, it seems, is not without a sense of irony." Linda and I didn't realize at the time that the guy that was the leader of that coalition of fanatics was a friend of mine from high school, and we were in the same art class together. Go fig. :)

Last year "Charmed" was on the way out, but at the last second it was saved. I know there was an email campaign but I doubt that it had any major say in the whole issue of renewal of contracts.

From what I have seen, from the out side, the driving force to put a show on the air is sponsorship. If money can be made then the show, "Charmed", "Teentitans", or "He-Man" will be made.

Comic books are usually tediously and poorly-written. For a screen adaptation to follow the comic book word-for-word and concept-for-concept would be extremely stupid.

...I dunno...

Road To Perdition stuck to the concept and came out pretty good. So did A History of Violence.

Ghost World wasn't bad, either.

Neither was Hellboy. Or American Splendor

(But, then, these weren't conventional "comic books," either. So take the above with a grain of salt... :D)

Aleph66,
None of those movies you mention are "word-for-word" adaptations, so I don't see how you're refuting me. They all deviate from the source material, if only slightly.

A much better example would have been Sin City, which is nearly scene-for-scene and stylistically borrows heavily from the comic book. Still, they brought much to the movie that was never in the comic book, including interesting acting and backgrounds.

(Oy, gevalt...) Fine. 'ave it your way, guv'nor.

And throw in Pogo For President and the Spawn miniseries for good measure.

If you tire so easily when someone responds to you in a debate, then you probably shouldn't be debating in the first place.

A couple of them had this villian called Mad Mod (voiced by Malcolm McDowell) who was sort of an Austin Powers 1960s guy.
The animation in one of these episodes parodied stylized animation of the 1960s like Terry Gilliam's and Yellow Submarine.

Ah, beautiful screenshots! Makes me want to watch the show all over again.

You, sir, are absolutely correct. I've no business putting in my $0.02 in matters cinematic. At 1500+ posts, this is clearly your world. And I am clearly a tourist. I apologize unreservedly for any emotional/psychological distress that my callow and wrongheaded posts might have caused you (and, no, I'm not being sarcastic). From this post onward, you may be assured that I shall keep my counsel in this, and any other topic*.

HELLBOY!!!?!?!? What a stinker. What a HUGE disappointment. The screen should have been FILLED with black. 3/4 of every shot should have been ALL black. But they lost their nerve and made just another Hollywood movie based on a comic. They totally ignored the look of the comic entirely. Sure they have article and special after special about how they limited the color pallete to try and get the look, but they failed, and not a little either. It was far from edgy and stylistic, it was just like every other Hollywood film. Blech

Jinkies. Don't sugar-coat it. Tell us what you really think. :)

*other than my Daily Sketch thread, that is.

I don't think his point was that you shouldn't post or contribute, but that you gave up so easily.

Sorry, I get worked up when it comes to the squandered potential of Hellboy. :(

It's a show I actually enjoy, and - with its cancellation - there is now nothing for me to watch on Cartoon Network besides a few Adult Swim shows.

No problem. I was reluctant to put words in your mouth. I was hoping that was what you were saying, because I was thinking it, too.

Gees, what is with these guys? I just read the AWN article on pitching so based on that these shows are not fitting into Cartoon Networks goals? They are replaying "Justice League" with "Bobobo..."?

Is there someone who knows if the "Teen Titans" got renewed?

I can't say that I'll miss it, although there were occasional inventive episodes that animation fans might want to check out.

Maybe they'll replace it with a show about an interesting superhero. I vote for Fly Guy. :D

Bless you.

That is one creepy-looking TV show, and I've only seen screenshots. I might have to swear off television until that thing is off the air.

Wow

This is good news to me. sorry.

This show is horrible. It is like american anime. Way too many of the cliche anime expressions it is just annoying. Ive watched it a few times, the characters are pretty dull. This stupid show tookover Samurai Jacks spot on the station.

Worst trade off ever. Im glad.

Ha, that was a little mean don't you think, but oh so true :p it's story appeals to a younger generation but for those who look at the true context of what an animation is will realise that it does have it's flaws.
However, I will miss it :o

I liked the show, but I was not watching it for its animation. I thought they did an excellent job of developing interesting storylines. My main gripe with the show was the uneven flow of its storyline over its very short season. A hit or miss type thing.

I have yet to see any official news release about the "Teen Titans" As for as I have heard, the show has been moved to "WB". In commercials I keep seening "Teen Titan" toys so unless they are burning off product, they show could still be in production. They only make 13 epsiodes a season, for a big studio that should be a cake walk.

Neither was Hellboy.

No. Most comic book movies have little to do with, look or story, the original medium other than a passing similarity to the storyline and sometimes characters. Sometimes that's good, sometimes it's not. With Hellboy it was definitely not.

Please show me the "official news release" that says a 6th season of Teen Titans will be broadcast on WB.
Please show me any production reports on season 6.

Most comic book movies have little to do with, look or story, the original medium other than a passing similarity to the storyline and sometimes characters. Sometimes that's good, sometimes it's not.

Occasionally a movie adaptation is better - BECAUSE it deviated from the source - and your post had me considering those movies:
Superman the Movie, the Fleischer Superman shorts, Batman Begins, Spider-Man 2, Akira, X-men 2, Sin City, Dick Tracy.

Smallville, the television show, is better than the old Superboy comic books it's loosely based on.

Sometimes a movie is worse than its source, but still very good. The Popeye cartoon series of the '30s is an example of this.

Please show me the "official news release" that says a 6th season of Teen Titans will be broadcast on WB.

No can do and I have looked. I should have said I have not seen any official news release on the "Teen Titans", other than the schedule change.

Could you name your source, I have seen nothing on the show being canceled. The problem may not be with Cartoon Network but with the sponcers. "Teen Titans" as always be measly with their epsiods. Thirteen (13) epsiodes seen over a fiftytwo (52) week schedule is not great viewing.

I do watch and I find it a passable show.

Could you name your source, I have seen nothing on the show being canceled.

I heard about the cancellation of The Teen Titans from Titanstower.com.

Ya know, it took me a long while to find the appeal of The Teen Titans animated series. Eventually, the show grew on me, and I feel in love with the characters, designs, and stories.

I will be quite sad to see the show cancelled.

The cancellation is also mentioned at Titansgo.net and at Toonzone.net.

I never knew the show was on this long. I just recently discovered the show last year because of my seven year old cousin. During that time I found out that Hi Hi Pufy Yumi sing the theme song. I heard that Cartoon Network normally only runs a show for 52 episodes. I assume TT has done more than 52.

that would be interesting.. was that why Dexter's lab, powerpuff girls and Johnny bravo are no longer on..
although I think they had more than 52 episodes.

Teen Titans Lets GO

Well, if you want to go proactive about Teen Titans, there is (of course) an online petition set to save it.

http://www.petitiononline.com/jn2llt/petition.html

I like Teen Titans. Its a cute marriage between East and West animation. Actually, I think its a tiny little homage to FLCL with those toony anime expressions. You take those great takes, mix it with the DC characters.... its like the WB execs took everything thats profitable (or everything THEY think is profitable) and put it in a big bowl and..... oh wait....

Eh, I still like it. Go rock the vote. Look what Family Guy's fans did.

Look what Family Guy's fans did.

Family Guy returned because of DVD sales (around the top 10 for a year or two).
Teen Titans' DVDs aren't selling very well (#2150).
If you want to save your show, your best bet might be to quickly get all the cheapskate fans of the show to buy every single Teen Titan DVD.
They are pretty cheap. On Amazon, you'll pay less that $50 for four DVD sets.

teen titans isn't "american anime". at first i rolled my eyes when i saw some of the anime takes and expressions. and then i reallized they weren't over used and fit the contexts they were used in.

they knew what they were doing with the show. they've even come up with a few if their own unique takes. like the episode where robin had to take kitten to the prom. starfire's mouth slid off her face and into the punch bowl.

It is very hard to like this show, when the characters are 100% NOT true to what has been written for 50 years in DC Comics. TV and movie executives will never learn that you don't have to change everything around and make it hip and cool for the "current" gen. Just make it GOOD, and you won't have this problem.

But, instead, they feed us this crap, and we wonder why it's getting cancelled. I dunno, maybe cuz it sucks.

And anime is quickly losing its popularity, Thank Christ. I am sick of seeing anime influences ruin everything in our culture. How is simplifying the art and drawing characters real crappy with stilted dialogue better than what we had before? IT AINT!

Teen Titans is crap and deserves to be canceled, just for insulting the original material the way they did.

You seem to be conveniently forgetting that the comics themselves revise their characters every few years to make them more "hip and cool for the current gen."

And since when has a movie or TV show been "100% true" to the comic book?
1960s Batman TV show? No.
Superman movie? No.
X-men movie? No.
Spider-man movie? No.
Justice League show? No.

Comic books are usually tediously and poorly-written. For a screen adaptation to follow the comic book word-for-word and concept-for-concept would be extremely stupid.

There are a lot more reasons to dislike anime than sailor moon and pokemon. Plus pokemon...at least the first season, wasnt even that bad compared to others. It was definitely a kids show just as much as spongebob is.
