What's the most ideal laptop/comp for uni students?

HI...I'm a first year design student.
I'm planning to major in computer graphics/animation.
what is the best laptop/comp for animator?
I was thinking of buying Mac.....what do you guys think?

I would suggest checking out what programs your school is using and make sure that they are available for Mac. Most are but some software companies don't even bother to make Mac versions.
