Are you looking for animators specifically or are you looking for an all-around 3d person who models, textures, rigs, animates lights, and the whole works? I am an animator and a rigger, but not really a generalist. Is your budget more designed for a non-specialist type person?
Not to be too skeptical, but it sounds like they're looking for people who are willing to work well below industry pay standards. Otherwise why only seek out graduating students?
I'd love to be shown I'm wrong, perhaps by a posting of the salaries and benefits being offered.

Not to be too big of an arse, but if I were him my first order of business would be to hire someone to spell independent correctly. Or opposed. Or Combustion for that matter, being a tool of the company's arsenal. Then -- then we worry about things like competing against the entire rest of the entertainment industry in state of the art computer animation. Especially a powerhouse like ILM.
