Financing Independent Animation and Reps?

Has anyone else read this article on AWN

How To finance Independent Animation
http://mag.awn.com/index.php?ltype=pageone&article_no=2129&page=5

In it, Patrick Smith says ,

"1.— The largest being freelance commercial work. Most animators I know
have a rep that gets them directing jobs. Commercials are great because
they typically pay a lot, and are always on a tight schedule, so it’s
over fast, allowing the animator to spend a vast majority of their time
working on independent films. "

That sounds awesome.
So my question is:
how does an independent animator find a rep to get them directing jobs?

if you go to Pat's website (I believe it's listed under his quote), you'll find his email. Just ask him about this rep. business.

It could well be that the success of Pat's indie work attracted reps to him.
He was probably approached after his success at Sundance or Slamdance or one of those damn dance festivals.

I'll do that.

I was intrigued by his statement

"Most animators I know have a rep that gets them directing jobs"

So if it is really "most" I was hoping to hear from some of those other independent animators out there who work with a rep too, and how they hooked up.

Wow, I just realized that you are the same Chris Robinson who wrote the AWN article.

Dude that was an awesome article! Thanks so much for putting it together!

Yeah the "Pimp" (Chris) is a legend. Don't see him much on the boards, but every now and then he pops up. I really enjoy his columns. And this one was a good one.
