The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present a special screening of the 1939 action-adventure film GUNGA DIN on Friday, June 12, at 7:30 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. Before the presentation, Oscar winners Ben Burtt and Craig Barron will discuss the sound and visual effects used in the film. The program also will be presented in New York on Monday, June 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy Theater in New York City.

The Los Angeles Chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH will host a one night only event, sponsored by Side Effects software on the making of NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: BATTLE OF THE SMITHSONIAN. Francisco Rodriguez, FX Supervisor at Rhythm & Hues will provide an overview of the visual effects techniques employed across the production pipeline integrating both propriety tools and Houdini. The 10-film 70th anniversary celebration, which will run through August 3, showcases all of the Best Picture nominees from a landmark year that saw the release of an exceptional number of outstanding films.
