Karen Sperling's Corel Painter 101

Begins: April 26, 2008

Corel Painter offers robust paint brushes and textures unlike those found in any other software.

And now artists can learn to use this powerful program for motion picture or television animation production at Studio Arts, Hollywood's premier training center for animation, editing, visual effects and production design.

Entitled Painter 101, the class runs from April 26, 2008 through June 28, 2008 in Studio Arts' state-of-the-art facilities, where students will have use of Macintoshes loaded with Painter X, and Wacom tablets.

40th Anniversary Screening Of 2001: A Space Odyssey

Begins: April 25, 2008

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present a 40th anniversary screening of Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY on Friday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Tom Hanks, whose career and interests were markedly influenced by 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, will host this special screening, presented in 70mm 6-track stereo, as was the original release. Following the screening, Hanks will be joined onstage by actor Keir Dullea, Oscar-nominated visual effects wizard Douglas Trumbull and special effects artist Bruce Logan to discuss their work on the film.

Join Gnomon School of Visual Effects and the VES in welcoming two key players of the visual effects team from the recently releasedTHE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES: Colin Epstein, compositing supervisor from Tippett Studio and Daniel Gregoire, previs supervisor from HALON Entertainment.

Epstein and Gregoire will take us through many of the compositing and previs shot-breakdowns from the fantasy adventure and help uncover some of the visual effects magic of the Spiderwick estate and the creatures that inhabit it.

Vail Film Festival 2008

The Vail Film Festival, with presenting sponsor BEST LIFE magazine, announced the complete line-up of films selected to be screened at the 2008 Festival, taking place April 3 - 6, 2008 at America's top-rated ski resort in Vail, Colorado.

The Festival will screen 83 films from around the world, including 16 feature films and 66 documentaries, short films, Oscar shorts, action sports, student, and animated films. The 2008 Festival also will feature the two winning short films from the brand new Red Vision Film Contest.

Tokyo International Anime Fair

The Tokyo International Anime Fair (known as "TAF") is held every spring at Tokyo Big Sight. The exhibition features a trade fair with booth exhibits by anime-related companies, events including spectacular stage performances and film screenings/displays, and the Tokyo Anime Awards, in which outstanding anime works are presented with awards. Every year the exhibition attracts people throughout the world. TAF 2007 featured exhibits by 270 companies (55 from overseas) and welcomed a record 107,713 visitors over the four days of the event.

Filming In 3D Stereo

This presentation will show you how to set up 3D cameras and their rigs.
