Wimbledon Shorts Film Festival

This year's Wimbledon Shorts Film Festival will be held at the Troika theatre in Wimbledon, London on June 7. The festival aims to raise awareness and involvement in filmmaking stressing the personal aspect of filmmaking and cinema experience.

th1ng executive producer Dominic Buttimore will be joined on the judging panel by Ashvin Kumar, director of Oscar-nominated short film LITTLE TERRORIST, film critic Derek Malcolm, filmmaker Josh Appignanesi, screenplay writer Juliet McKoen, artist Manu Luksch and art journalist Lucy Kane.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will take audiences on a special behind-the-scenes journey into the making of 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY during a program hosted by special effects pioneer Douglas Trumbull and actor Tom Hanks, on Wednesday, May 21, at 8 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

Presented by the Academy's Science and Technology Council, "2001 in 2008: A Cinematic Odyssey" will feature never-before-seen images of and an onstage discussion about the technology used in the making of Stanley Kubrick's Academy Award-winning sci-fi epic.

Animate! 08 -- Segunda Edicion -- International Animation Film Festival

Animate! 08 -- Segunda Edicion -- is the oldest animation film festival in Uruguay. This year it is the second edition of "Centro Cultural de España" in Montevideo, in its third year. The works accepted to this festival will be exhibited at the Cinema Auditorium of the Centro Cultural de Espana, sponsored by Animation Campus and Centro Cultural de Espana del Uruguay.

The festival has its focus in short adult animations of any kind, no matter the technique. This is a non competitive festival, and there are no fees for submission.

The 1996 Best Picture nominee FARGO will be screened as the next feature in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' "Great To Be Nominated" series, along with Oscar-nominated animated short LA SALLA.

The dark comedy about a kidnapping, a string of murders and their investigation by a pregnant cop will screen on Monday, May 12, at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
