3D Entertainment Summit 2009

The second annual 3D Entertainment Summit will be September 16-17, 2009 at the Universal City Hilton in Universal City, California.

The 2009 3D Entertainment Summit will accommodate more attendees as it moves to a larger space designated for keynotes and panel discussions, film presentations and larger exhibitor area. In addition, the two-day summit will include a state-of-the-art 3-D digital cinema system for special 3-D studio sneak previews and full feature presentations.

Academy to Celebrate Animator Adam Beckett

Begins: August 17, 2009

Influential animator and visual effects artist Adam Beckett will be celebrated by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences with a special program entitled "Infinite Animation: The Work of Adam Beckett," on Monday, August 17, at 8 p.m. at the Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood. The evening will include a screening of "Life in the Atom," a short film that Beckett left unfinished when he died at the age of 29.

The Association of Animation Artistes (A3K) has recently been registered in Kenya, East Africa. Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival (SICAF) is calling for entries. The fesvial is one of the acknowledged international animation festivals in Asia, accredited by ASIFA International. The second annual Downtown Film Festival - Los Angeles (DFFLA), the only dedicated film festival in the historic core of the Entertainment Capital of the World, will be held August, 12-22, 2009. The festival doubles in size to 10 days from last year's inaugural event with a series of film screenings of Hollywood, independent and classic films, lectures, panel discussions, exhibits, and parties and receptions, all celebrating downtown L.A.'s renaissance.

Second China Game Developers Conference

As an event with extensive influence in game developing field, the second China Game Developers Conference (CGDC) will be held in conjunction with world's second largest game show -- ChinaJoy, on July 24-26, 2009 in Shanghai, China. The first CGDC was closed on Aug. 29, 2007, on the conference, 60 experts and over one thousand professionals in game industry exchanged their ideas deeply; more than 50 technology suppliers promoted their technologies and products. The 2nd CGDC will also be supported by related government administration agencies.

Academy Ventures into Space with NASA Atlantis Crew

Exploring the relationship between NASA and motion pictures, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present "Astronaut as Filmmaker," featuring Commander Scott Altman and the crew of the STS-125 shuttle mission to service the Hubble Space Telescope, on Tuesday, July 14, at 8 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. The program will be hosted by Oscar-nominated cinematographer Caleb Deschanel and Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor John Dykstra.

Oscar winning animation director Chris Landreth is one of the true legends of the contemporary creative animation scene. Landreth has been at the absolute forefront of computer animation development for a decade. His films -- THE END, BINGO and RYAN -- represented groundbreaking leaps in pushing technology to its limits to show the breadth of what animation was capable of depicting on the screen. Cox Movies Under the Moon Offers Big-Screen Hits Under the Stars

In Northern Virginia, some things in life are still free thanks to Cox Communications. For five nights, from June 24 through June 28, at Van Dyck Park in Fairfax, the company hosts its annual Cox Movies Under the Moon, a free outdoor film festival offering family-friendly entertainment under the stars. This is the seventh year that Cox has partnered with the City of Fairfax and 97.1 WASH FM to present this event. In keeping with Cox's commitment to the community, attendees are invited to contribute donations to benefit Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children.

The Academy Dives into The Abyss

THE ABYSS, the deep-sea epic renowned for its pioneering digital water effects and sophisticated underwater photography and sound recording, will be screened at a special 20th anniversary event by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Tuesday, June 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood. This screening will premiere a newly struck 35mm print from the Academy Film Archive.
