The DIY Convention: Do It Yourself in Film, Music & Books is a one-day event on creating, promoting and distributing independent film, music and books. The event features panels, workshops and exhibits on various aspects of bringing your creative vision to a larger audience. The New York City event is the Saturday programming at the CMJ Music Marathon, now in its 22nd year, and features the DIY Book Festival Awards, honoring the top independent authors and publishers in various categories, including comics.

The Valley Film Festival

More than peaches, porn and pop culture trends, it's the return of the San Fernando Valley's ONLY film festival: The Valley Film Festival. November 1-7 at The El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood.

Over the course of 7 days, we will showcase one short & one feature in the following categories: Comedy, Documentary, Drama, Foreign, Horror/Thriller, Valley-specific and W.I.F. (Women in Film)

Additionally, this year we'll be launching our "Valley: After Midnight" program featuring films reflecting the...racier...side of the 818.

Now an Academy-qualifying festival for Short Films!

The largest (and oldest) children's film festival in North America takes place October 24-November 3, 2002 in Chicago. The 19th CICFF, or "Cannes for Kids," invites entries in all categories, including live action and animated features and shorts, television programs and child-produced work for competition judged by child and adult juries, with cash prizes. Winners in the short film category will automatically be submitted to the Short Film

Art Seminars - Seminars, as always, will include the ubiquitous and fun cel painting classes! Drawing, modelling, and so forth are planning in various degrees, and Tom Grossman, modeller extraordinaire, will host a 'Make and Take' modelling session where kids under 16 can come and get a model to work on for free! Artist Newton Ewell will also teach special sessions on drawing Characters for Manga and Mecha for Manga. Too cool....
