Anime Expo is the largest convention devoted to Japanese animation and manga (comics) in the United States. Hosted by the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA), Anime Expo is the gathering place of thousands of fans and professionals in the anime and manga industry.

Banff 2003, the 24th Banff Television Festival, takes place June 8-13, 2003 at the Fairmont Banff Springs in the Canadian Rockies. Following the success of the AEAF Awards in Sydney last December, organizers of the Australian Effects & Animation Festival (AEAF) have introduced a Short Film Festival to the Melbourne event (May 12-13) at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Federation Square, Melbourne. The shorts festival will showcase some of the best digital and animated material submitted to the AEAF Awards 2002, as well as some new material that has been submitted solely for the purpose of screening in Melbourne.

The 1st Annual Shanghai International Cartoon Carnival is an animation and comics festival targeted at children and teenagers. The focus of the Carnival is screenings of animation, interactive games, fan-based activities (COSPLAY, fan-art), and live games. Emphasis is placed solely on the enjoyment of the attendees (viz., children). As this is the first year of the event, there will be no competition or entry fees. All major formats, including animation with linked live performances, are acceptable for submission.
