Don Thomas Tribute

BUFF The International Children and Young People's Film Festival in Malmo, Sweden, was founded in 1984 and is a non-profit organization. The aim was, and still is, to screen good films for children and young people as well as adults. A meeting place for people working with children, young people and film. BUFF strives to open the possibilities for more influences from Europe and the rest of the world by showing films that might never be screened otherwise. For the second year in Miami, the Trade Commission Office of Spain along with the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX) and FAPAE (The Federation of Associations of Spanish Audiovisual Producers (FAPAE) are organizing a market for the television production industry of Spain. This initiative has been created in response to the raising demand of Spanish productions. Vicky Jenson (SHREK) will discuss her years as an art director and/or production designer on projects including FERNGULLY, THE ROAD TO EL DORADO, and her upcoming DreamWorks film, SHARK TALE, as well as her work with Ralph Bakshi and John Kricfalusi on the visual style development for Mighty Mouse and Ren & Stimpy. Jenson will show clips of her work, as well as FAMILY TREE, a 36-minute live-action film she directed, starring Harlan Williams, Talia Shire and Ethan Phillips. The program will begin at 1:15 pm at The Little Theater, 240 East Avenue. Tickets for the show are $7.

John Canemaker Hosts LACMA Mary Blair Lecture

Animation historian John Canemaker will appear at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art with a colorfully illustrated multimedia presentation: THE ART AND FLAIR OF MARY BLAIR, based on his new Disney Editions book. The 7:30 pm lecture/demo will be followed by a book signing, plus a rare 35mm screening of Disney's ALICE IN WONDERLAND, the 1951 cartoon feature principally art directed by Mary Blair.
