This year Comics 4 Comix takes place on Thursday, April 23 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco. Tickets are $20 per person for general admission, with 2-for-1 admission for Cartoon Art Museum members.

The Kansas City Filmmakers Jubilee and FilmFestKC have agreed to combine their festivals into a single film extravaganza called Kansas City FilmFest. The new festival will be held in April each year, combining the programming strengths of each group. The joint venture will continue the Jubilee's strong focus on local and regional work as well as FilmFestKC's screenings of international feature films.

Red Stick International Animation Festival, the largest event of its kind in the United States, is now accepting entries for its fifth annual 2009 "Best of the Fest" competition.

Red Stick highlights the intersections among art, technology and computational science. Each year, the festival draws renowned animators, video game developers and other digital media industry professionals to Baton Rouge to host lectures, workshops and other events for aspiring artists, programmers and entrepreneurs.

Headlining is the 70th Anniversary of GULLIVER'S TRAVELS (1939, Original 3-Strip Technicolor Print), preceded by the shorts BETTY BOOP IN BLUNDERLAND (1933), SUPERMAN'S MECHANICAL MONSTERS (1941), and POPEYE MEETS ALI BABA & HIS FORTY THIEVES (1937) (Total program runs 109 minutes, all 35mm).

Quay Brothers at the Coolidge Corner Theatre

Previous honorees are film producer Jeremny Thomas in 2008, film editor Thelma Schoonmaker in 2007, actress Meryl Street in 2006, Italian cinematographer Vittorio Storaro in 2005 and Chinese director Zhang Yimou in 2004.

The Stoke Your Fires Festival of Animation will return in 2009. This year's animation festival builds on the success of the 2008 event by hosting a month of animation themed events at The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery.

The festival itself takes place on April 2-3, 2009 and will see professional animators come to Stoke-on-Trent to take part in seminars, lectures and masterclasses to share and develop their understanding of the industry.
