The Toronto Animation Industry Night is a social networking event for the Toronto animation community. The goal of the Toronto Animation Industry Night is to provide a platform for animation talent and offer the opportunity to network with industry leaders and professionals. The evening will showcase independent content and artistic diversity from some of Toronto's top 2D and 3D artists. Come out Thursday, April 23rd and enjoy the live animation jam, screening, networking and open bar.

Comics 4 Comix Benefit 2009

Comics and comix collide as the funnies meet the funny in the fifth annual fundraiser and silent art auction for San Francisco's Cartoon Art Museum. Join the Bay Area's funniest folk for a night of food, drink, and entertainment, and bid on original art by some of today's brightest stars in comics. This year Comics 4 Comix takes place on Thursday, April 23 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco. Tickets are $20 per person for general admission, with 2-for-1 admission for Cartoon Art Museum members.

Kansas City FilmFest

The Kansas City Filmmakers Jubilee and FilmFestKC have agreed to combine their festivals into a single film extravaganza called Kansas City FilmFest. The new festival will be held in April each year, combining the programming strengths of each group. The joint venture will continue the Jubilee's strong focus on local and regional work as well as FilmFestKC's screenings of international feature films.

Red Stick International Animation Festival 2009

Red Stick International Animation Festival, the largest event of its kind in the United States, is now accepting entries for its fifth annual 2009 "Best of the Fest" competition.

Red Stick highlights the intersections among art, technology and computational science. Each year, the festival draws renowned animators, video game developers and other digital media industry professionals to Baton Rouge to host lectures, workshops and other events for aspiring artists, programmers and entrepreneurs.

The Animation Madness of Max Fleischer

This wonderful collection from the animation pioneer collects his most popular creations in one fantastic program. Headlining is the 70th Anniversary of GULLIVER'S TRAVELS (1939, Original 3-Strip Technicolor Print), preceded by the shorts BETTY BOOP IN BLUNDERLAND (1933), SUPERMAN'S MECHANICAL MONSTERS (1941), and POPEYE MEETS ALI BABA & HIS FORTY THIEVES (1937) (Total program runs 109 minutes, all 35mm).

Screenings at 2:30, 5 and 8 p.m. All seats $5 all day.

Hudson Valley College Tour Featuring Bill Plympton

Bill Plympton will be presenting a selection of some of his favorite work and following each screeening with a Q&A. Screenings are free of charge and open to the public.

In addition to his many shorts, Plympton has made seven feature films, (five of them animated) including THE TUNE, MONDO PLYMPTON, I MARRIED A STRANGE PERSON, MUTANT ALIENS and HAIR HIGH. Jules Engel Centennial Celebration

Purple Violet Student Film Festival

Kean University in Union, New Jersey is currently seeking student submissions for the Purple Violet Film Festival, an innovative new festival that provides student filmmakers with cash awards and an opportunity to have their work seen and embraced by a large audience. The 2009 Festival also features renowned filmmaker, Emily Hubley, who will screen and discuss her film “The Toe Tactic”. Ms. Hubley is best known for her award-winning short films and her animated sequence in “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” (2001).

Nippon Connection Film Festival 2009

Japanese cinema returns to Frankfurt this spring. From April 15-19, Nippon Connection will feature fascinating and creative Japanese films for the ninth time. With over 150 short and feature films, ranging from experimental and animation films to blockbuster movies and documentaries, the festival includes many German and European premieres. Approximately 20 directors will present their films in person.

Quay Brothers at the Coolidge Corner Theatre

The independent Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, Massachusetts has chosen animation luminaries the Quay Brothers as the recipients of the 2009 Coolidge Award. The prestigious award is given annually to a film artist or artists whose work advances the spirit of original and challenging cinema. Previous honorees are film producer Jeremny Thomas in 2008, film editor Thelma Schoonmaker in 2007, actress Meryl Street in 2006, Italian cinematographer Vittorio Storaro in 2005 and Chinese director Zhang Yimou in 2004.

Visual Music Marathon 2009

The MFA Computer Art Department at School of Visual Arts, the New York Digital Salon and the Department of Music and Multimedia Studies at Northeastern University present the New York premiere of the Visual Music Marathon, a 12-hour festival showcasing 120 works by contemporary digital artists and composers from around the world. The event offers an encyclopedic look into the burgeoning practice of visual music, which combines animation and musical composition.

Kawaii Kon, held at the Hawaii Convention Center, will have an expanded dealer's room this year, along with more focused video rooms, and more video gaming. They have lined up guests in the anime and manga industry from both the United States and Japan. Animate the World Festival 2009

The Stoke Your Fires Festival of Animation will return in 2009. This year's animation festival builds on the success of the 2008 event by hosting a month of animation themed events at The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery.

The festival itself takes place on April 2-3, 2009 and will see professional animators come to Stoke-on-Trent to take part in seminars, lectures and masterclasses to share and develop their understanding of the industry.
