Metreon-A Sony Entertainment Center in downtown San Francisco will host the first annual Metreon Festival of Anime the weekend of October 27-28 inside Metreon's Action Theatre attraction. The Minnesota Fringe Theater & Performance Festival, now in its eighth year, announces the inclusion of a film and video festival. The tradition of the Fringe is a non-competitive, all-inclusive celebration. All work entered will be programmed on a first come, first served basis. The only requirement is that the short be no longer than 60 minutes in length. The festival is looking for shorts of all categories and production qualities: experimental, fake-docs, horror, music videos, documentaries, student work, recent releases, as well as old 16mm. Films and videos must be submitted on VHS.

Flashbang announces FLASHBANG 3, the third installation and screening of cinematic and interactive Flash films. On Saturday, the conference will hold E-Cinema Expo, which will be devoted to DV, HD and Internet-based filmmaking. On Saturday evening, The Flyover Zone Film Festival will showcase short subjects created by IFP/Midwest members or in the "Flyover Zone" (i.e. the Midwest). The 8th Annual Holland Animation Film Festival

This year the Holland Animation Film Festival will hold its first international competition for independent animation films. With this competition, the festival sets out to promote the short, artistic animation film, and, as a result, encourage media attention toward independent animation. The competition is divided into two separate categories: one for narrative film and one for non-narrative film. In both categories a Grand Prix will be awarded. The maximum length of films entered for the competition is 35 minutes.
