ASIFA-Hollywood will host a retrospective of the animated films of award-winning filmmaker Leonard Glasser. Glasser will appear in person to discuss his illustrious career that spans over 45 years, and began in the late-Fifties with his work on the classic CBS TV series "Tom Terrific." Also screening will be the Ernie Pintoff short films "The Interview (1960)" and "The Old Man and the Flower (1962)," both of which were designed by Glasser.

The Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival (CCI-IFF) will return in 2004 with four big days of indie film fun. Comic-Con will also be hosting the Star Wars Fan Film Awards, in conjunction with Lucasfilm Ltd. and AtomFilms.com. Comic-Con is looking for short (and long) films.
Every two years the UCLA Film and Television Archives opens its vaults and presents its latest restorations to the public in a gala program called "The Festival Of Preservation." Several animated shorts will play as part of the series. The opening night screening on PATHS OF GLORY will be preceded by a restored version of George Pal's anti-war Puppetoon TULIPS SHALL GROW (1943). On the following July 25, a restoration of the Max Fleischer's A CARTUNE PORTRAIT (1937) will screen before PENNY SERENADE.
Art in Essence is an arts festival, which encourages and showcases artists, painters, sculptors, musicians, poets and filmmakers. It is a fresh initiative from the founders of the country's leading arts festival 'Art in Action', a highly successful event which has been running for more than 20 years, often drawing more than 25,000 visitors a year. The Visual Effects Society (VES) will present VES 2004, its sixth annual Festival of Visual Effects, June 18-20 in San Rafael, California. The three-day event at The Rafael Film Center features presentations and panels headed by visual effects supervisors and their teams, which focus on vfx and how they enhance the storytelling process.

Covering all the bases, the theatres will show independent and network pieces, as well as professional works and college projects. The 3rd Annual Sci-Fi & Fantasy Classic Film Weekend is a celebration of classic sci-fi and fantasy film that will feature guest speaker Ray Harryhausen. At 7:30 pm on May 14, the event will host a talk with Ray Harryhausen followed by the screening of JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS. At 4:30 on May 5, THIS ISLAND EARTH will screen. The International Animated Film Society-Hollywood will celebrate the release for the first time ever of Disney's historic war effort productions on DVD with a screening of rare 35mm prints of Disney cartoons produced during World War II at the Alex Theatre in Glendale on Tuesday, May 11, at 8 p.m.
Arrangements are being made for a special panel of industry professionals to appear at this special screening to discuss the work and culture at Walt Disney that went into creating these films.
