The European Independent Film Festival (ECU) discovers, promotes and projects the best independent films from around the world every year at La Bibliotheque Nationale de France in Paris. This year's festival will take place March 13-15, 2009.
Canada's first digital 3-D film festival is set for a classic movie house in Salmon Arm, British Columbia.

The Cartoon Art Museum's Annual WonderCon Weekend Party will be held on Friday, February 27, 2008, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.. Admission to this ticketed event will be on a sliding scale from $10 to $35, with guests encouraged to contribute whatever they can to support the Cartoon Art Museum. Many of the featured artists and special WonderCon guests will be in attendance, including featured guests WATCHMEN co-creator Dave Gibbons and USAGI YOJIMBO creator Stan Sakai.
Coming off its biggest and most successful year ever, WonderCon is gearing up for its 23rd year as a Bay area tradition. The comics and popular arts convention returns to Moscone Center South for another three-day weekend run on February 27 through March 1. The Omaha Film Festival is now accepting entries in the following categories: Narrative Feature, Documentary Feature, Short Film, Animated Short Film, OFF the EDGE Feature Film (Horror, Experimental, Dark Films longer than 25 minutes) and Nebraska Short Film.
Screenplays will be accepted in Feature Length (30-140 pages) and Short Length (Under 30 pages).
Each year the Academy's Foreign Language Film Award Nominees Symposium brings together some of the world's top filmmakers to address such wide-ranging topics as art, politics and the challenges of their profession.
On Saturday, February 21, one day before the 81st Academy Awards, directors of the motion pictures nominated in the Foreign Language Film category will appear onstage to discuss their work. This two-hour event, which always draws an international standing-room-only crowd, will also feature a brief clip from each of the nominated films.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present the Makeup Artist and Hairstylist Symposium, a program spotlighting the work of the 2008 Academy Award nominees in the Makeup category, on Saturday, February 21, at 2:30 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.
The program, moderated by Academy governor Leonard Engelman, will feature a discussion of the nominees' creative process as well as present film clips, photographs and models of their work.

The Cartoon Art Museum presents an in-depth look at one of the most anticipated films of 2009 and the graphic novel that inspired it in its latest exhibition, WATCHMEN. The exhibition features dozens of concept illustrations, preparatory sketches and original comic book pages illustrated by Dave Gibbons, the co-creator and illustrator of the critically-acclaimed WATCHMEN graphic novel.
On Saturday, February 14, New York movie lovers will have the opportunity to see all 10 of this year's Oscar-nominated films in the Animated and Live Action Short Film categories at the Academy Theater at Lighthouse International (111 East 59th Street). There will be two separate screenings of the nominated films, the first at noon and an encore presentation at 4 p.m.

The open house is held in conjunction with the ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards celebration on February 15, at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel.
For the first time, Oscar fans in Chicago will be able to hold an actual Oscar statuette and have their photo taken at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' "Meet the Oscars, Chicago." The exhibition will open Friday, February 13, at The Shops at North Bridge on Michigan Avenue, and run through Sunday, February 22, the night of the 81st Academy Awards presentation. Hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free. Chicago is the only city to host a "Meet the Oscars" exhibition this year.
On February 11, 2009 at 7 p.m., the Kinetic Cinema screening at Chez Bushwick will feature a wide-variety of dance and movement animation videos. Curated by Doug Fox, blogger and founder of Great Dance, the program will show how directors, artists, choreographers and dancers have used different animation styles and techniques to capture, illustrate and transform human movement.
