Anime Expo 2009

Located in Los Angeles, California, Anime Expo, the nation's largest anime/manga convention, serves to foster trade, commerce and the interests of the general public and animation/ comics industry. This event serves as a key meeting place for the general public to express their interest and explore various aspects of anime/manga, as well as for members of the industry to conduct business. CON-CAN Movie Festival 2009

Begins: July 1, 2009

=Conditions-- Must be no more than 30 minutes in length?-- There are no limitations considering the applicant’s age?-- All genres and languages are accepted?-- Must have been made after January of 2006?-- Copyrights and any other rights of the movie to be submitted must be possessed or registered by the actual applicant?-- Must have never been submitted to a previous CON-CAN Movie Festival?-- Movies in a language other than English or Japanese must have either English or Japanese subtitles?

Cox Movies Under the Moon Offers Big-Screen Hits Under the Stars

In Northern Virginia, some things in life are still free thanks to Cox Communications. For five nights, from June 24 through June 28, at Van Dyck Park in Fairfax, the company hosts its annual Cox Movies Under the Moon, a free outdoor film festival offering family-friendly entertainment under the stars. This is the seventh year that Cox has partnered with the City of Fairfax and 97.1 WASH FM to present this event. In keeping with Cox's commitment to the community, attendees are invited to contribute donations to benefit Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children.

The Academy Dives into The Abyss

Begins: June 23, 2009

THE ABYSS, the deep-sea epic renowned for its pioneering digital water effects and sophisticated underwater photography and sound recording, will be screened at a special 20th anniversary event by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Tuesday, June 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood. This screening will premiere a newly struck 35mm print from the Academy Film Archive.

Hollywood's Greatest Year Travels to NYC for Summer Run

GONE WITH THE WIND, the 1939 Best Picture winner, will kick off the New York presentation of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' latest screening series, "Hollywood's Greatest Year: The Best Picture Nominees of 1939," on Saturday, June 20, at 12:30 p.m. at the Academy's Theater in New York City. Robert Osborne, television host, columnist and Academy biographer, will host the event.

The Los Angeles Film Festival, held annually for ten days in June, showcases the best of American and international cinema. Drawing on an expected attendance of 85,000, the festival provides films with the opportunity to be embraced by the public and discovered by the industry. More than 100 feature films -- narrative and documentary-are featured in the festival, alongside gala premieres, panels and seminars, short film programs, music video showcases, free outdoor screenings, live musical performances, and unique signature events.

Edinburgh International Film Festival 2009

Begins: June 17, 2009

Edinburgh International Film Festival is delighted to welcome American animator Don Hertzfeldt. He will introduce a retrospective of his work at the Cameo Cinema on the 21st of June at 6pm, featuring the UK premier of his latest film I AM SO PROUD OF YOU, the eagerly anticipated continuation of EVERYTHING WILL BE OK.

Following the screening, Hertzfeldt will speak about his films. In all they have won over a hundred awards, including Sundance Film Festival's Grand Jury Award.

Academy Pays Tribute to Godfather of Special Makeup Effects Dick Smith

Begins: June 17, 2009

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present "A Tribute to Dick Smith: The Godfather of Special Makeup Effects," on Wednesday, June 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Samuel Goldwyn Theater. Six-time Oscar-winning makeup artist Rick Baker will host the evening, which will be attended by Smith himself and will feature a panel discussion including writer-director Guillermo del Toro, actor Hal Holbrook and makeup artists Greg Cannom, Kazuhiro Tsuji and Andrew Clement, among others.

Now in its fourth year, FSC once again moves into a larger venue as the three day festival continues to grow. Hollywood & the Art of Puppetry

Do you like movies with creepy creature special effects? Meet Hollywood puppetry and special effects master Greg Aronowitz (THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK; LABOU) and go behind the scenes of Hollywood puppetry and animatronics.

Using examples from his "Best of Fest" Award-winning film LABOU, director Greg Aronowitz and producer Sheri Bryant share the magic of creature creation by bringing a puppet character to life. This hands-on workshop will give 30 lucky kids the chance to see puppetry and animatronics in action, then ask questions and create their own Labou puppets!

Academy to Celebrate "Hollywood's Greatest Year" All Summer Long

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will kick off summer screening series, "Hollywood's Greatest Year: The Best Picture Nominees of 1939," on Monday, May 18, with a big-screen presentation of GONE WITH THE WIND. The 10-film 70th anniversary celebration, which will run through August 3, showcases all of the Best Picture nominees from a landmark year that saw the release of an exceptional number of outstanding films. All screenings will be held on Monday evenings at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Highlighting Oregon-engineered stereoscopic display systems, the evening will discuss stereoscopic terms and concepts, and will offer an inside look at Oregon's very own youth phenomenon, the View-Master.

Design Festa Vol. 29

Design Festa is a biannual international art event, started in 1994. It is open to all artists from all over the world to exhibit their creative talent freely. 7,000 artists working in a variety of mediums will be present, turning the two day event into artistic chaos. Building the Perfect CG Pipeline
