Sita Sings At Red Vic in San Fran

Long-delayed SITA SINGS THE BLUES will see a theatrical run at the Red Vic in San Francisco from May 8-12, 2009.

SITA SINGS THE BLUES will be distributed by Shadow Distribution west of the Mississippi and by GKIDS east of that river. Shadow made a huge hit out of PARROTS OF TELEGRAPH HILL. Creator Nina Paley said, "I am thrilled that SITA is going to be at the Red Vic, one of my favorite SF theaters. I have many fond memories of ASIFA-SF and Ideas In Animation events at the Red Vic, as well as art films. I feel so triumphant!"

FICAM( Festival International de Film d'Animation de Meknes Morocco) is organized by the French Institute of Meknes and Conserve Meknes-Aicha.

Since 2000, is the largest event of its kind in Africa, a major film events attracting attendees from around the country. FICAM is an opportunity to showcase the latest animation films, with a special platform for Moroccan projects. The event also features an international competition, exhibitions, animation workshop and debates with directors.

But as the rats start to creep from the floorboards, and the way home becomes increasingly unclear, Coraline begins to suspect that, perhaps, all is not as perfect as it seems…

The International Competition, Young Animation, Tricks For Kids animated series and AniMovie are due December 1, 2008. JAWS documentary THE SHARK IS STILL WORKING will debut as part of the Los Angeles United Film Festival on May 2.

The documentary features appearances by Steven Spielberg, Richard Dreyfuss, Kevin Smith, Bryan Singer and M. Night Shyamalan and is narrated by Roy Scheider.

Screenings are at 9:45 p.m. Saturday, May 2 and midnight on Sunday, May 3 at the Los Feliz 3 Cinemas (1822 Vermont Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90027).

AniFest 2009

The call for entries has begun for the eighth edition of the International Festival of Animated Films. AniFest 2009 will be held in two different locations, Trebon from May 1-4, 2009 and Teplice from May 7-10, 2009.

A written application and a copy of the film on DVD or VHS needs to be delivered to the organizer's registered office no later than December 16, 2008.

The requirements for the Internet Animation competition are specified below. The deadline for entering films into the Internet competition is January 19, 2009.

Academy Celebrates Milt Kahl -- Animation's Michelangelo

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present "Milt Kahl: The Animation Michelangelo, A Centennial Celebration," on Monday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Animator Andreas Deja will host the evening, which will include a panel discussion, moderated by animation critic Charles Solomon. Scheduled panelists include Kathryn Beaumont, Brad Bird, Ron Clements, John Musker and Floyd Norman. The event serves as the 2009 installment of the Academy's Marc Davis Celebration of Animation.
