Kecskemet Animation Film Festival 2009

KAFF includes two different competitions: one for European animated feature films and TV specials and one for Hungarian animated short films.

In addition to the film screenings musical and theatrical shows, exhibitions and professional discussions will take place in town. Kecskemet is a small town with 100,000 inhabitants, with several arts workshops and with a lively cultural life, 80 km south of Budapest.

Entry works -- Feature (min. 52 minutes) and TV-Special (min.24 minutes) -- shall be made "frame by frame", including computer graphics animation.

Academy Pays Tribute to Godfather of Special Makeup Effects Dick Smith

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present "A Tribute to Dick Smith: The Godfather of Special Makeup Effects," on Wednesday, June 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Samuel Goldwyn Theater. Six-time Oscar-winning makeup artist Rick Baker will host the evening, which will be attended by Smith himself and will feature a panel discussion including writer-director Guillermo del Toro, actor Hal Holbrook and makeup artists Greg Cannom, Kazuhiro Tsuji and Andrew Clement, among others.

The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford, Connecticut will be hosting a free sneak peak of Disney-Pixar's UP on Saturday, May 9.

This special screening will take place in the Wadsworth's Aetna Theater at 2:00 pm. Admission to the film is on a first come, first served basis, so early arrival is recommended. Doors open at 1:00 pm and visitors are asked to enter through the Avery Lobby.

The film will be introduced by Donald Evans, Senior Vice President of Animation Marketing for Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios and former West Hartford native.
