The Academy of Art College presents its Animation Spring Show 2002.Festivities begin on May 23, 2002 with an Awards Presentation, Screening, and Gallery Exhibit. The Pre Show runs from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm with the Awards Ceremony starting at 6:30 pm. The Show will consist of works completed by Academy of Art College students in the fields of 3D Animation, 2D Animation, and Visual Effects. The Animation Spring Show is open to the public and runs from May 23rd to June 8th.

The Capilano College Animation Grad Show is an annual exhibit of student work from the two year, Commercial Animation program (classical)and the eight month, Digital Animation program (3D). Both professional level programs focus on character animation and design. Students and faculty will be in attendance and the winners of Capilano College's four studio-sponsored scholarships (Atomic, Nelvana, Studio B and Bardel) will be announced.

Fanime Con, located this year at the beautiful Santa Clara Convention Center, is a leading convention for fans of anime and manga (Japanese animated cartoons and comic books), and related popular culture. Guests of honor include: producer and director Hiroyuki Yamaga of Studio Gainax, Takemi Akai of Ninelives, Kunihiko Ikuhara- director of Sailor Moon and Revolutionary Girl Utena, singer/songwriter Mari Iijima, manga translation publisher Steve Bennett, anime scholar Gilles Poitras, former child star Taliesin Jaffe, and a plethora of voice-over actors.

The Art Institute of Los Angeles is hosting an Earth Day-inspired art contest and special event featuring digital and traditional works of art from current Art Institute students and local-area high school students. Using an environmental theme to showcase their artistic talents, students will compete for prizes and accolades, learn about animation/design software packages and raise awareness of environmental issues.

The public is invited to check out Portland's newest creative talent at the Winter 2002 Graduate Portfolio Show for The Art Institute of Portland. The diverse exhibit will include student animation reels, multimedia & web design CD-ROM portfolios, illustrations, graphic design, interior design, and apparel design work. Employers: what a great opportunity to network with other local design leaders as well as with the next generation of design professionals.

The Banned on Earth Animation Extravaganza Produced by Little Men Entertainment. A compilation of the world's most creative, bizarre, outrageous, twisted, demented, outlandish, provocative, and most importantly, hilarious animations to be released as a feature film. There is no charge for submitting an animation. Accepted animations will relieve royalties. The percentage of royalties will be based on the number of animations used in the final product. This percentage will be determined at a later date based on industry standards.

Animated Exeter is an annual animation festival consisting of a fortnight of animated films, workshops, events and exhibitions every February. Tied to the British Animation Awards Public Choice - the festival hosts events for all ages and levels of professionalism.Screenings have been programmed by Jayne Piling of BAA. Events include careers day for budding animators, 3d, 2d and computer animation workshops, retrospectives, comic-book conventions, and cutting edge digital animations for the music industry.

Animation 2002 will take place at the University of Teesside on January 31 and February 1 2002.

Following on from last years hugely successful events which brought together past-masters such as Ray Harryhausen and future stars like Michael Dudok De Wit, the 2002 event has a hard act to follow. However, it seems that organisers Chris Williams and Siobhan Fenton have managed to achieve the impossible. The line up of speakers and workshops is, to say the very least, impressive.

NATPE is one of the world's foremost media content exhibitions and conferences. The event serves as a forum for people in the media industry to buy, sell, develop, finance, advertise, promote, market or license their products to a global audience. Over 20,000 industry executives visit NATPE each year. The event offers seminars, discussions and pitching sessions for up-and-comers. NATPE 2002 seminars will focus on HD and Interactive TV.

The exhibit examines the rich history of cartoons that were made for television, and how classic theatrical cartoons have enjoyed generations of popularity through syndication and cable. Included are over 125 vintage production animation cels, drawings and rare painted background art, on loan from some of largest and most important private collections of animation art in the world. Most have never been exhibited before.
