CG Overdrive is a dedicated event for computer graphics and animation professionals and enthusiasts. It takes place as part of the Singapore Expo from June 17-20, 2008. Bakshi Party At Meltdown Comics

On Saturday, June 14 from 7 to 11 p.m., Ralph Bakshi will be throwing a party at Meltdown Comics in Hollywood (7522 W. Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, California). Authors Jon M. Gibson and Chris McDonnell will also be there. Original Bakshi paintings and animation production art will be on display.

L.A. SIGGRAPH: Maker Night and Science Fair

The Los Angeles Professional Chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH will host a one night event on interactive techniques. "Maker Night" will feature Mark Frauenfelder and Jeff Boynton. Frauefelder of MAKE Magazine and BoingBoing.net will speak on "The Rise and Fall and Ride of Modern Making." Boynton will provide a performance on circuit bending by creating an immersive audio environment honed from his hand crafted electronic instruments built from leftover consumer electronic detritus.

2008 MoCCA Art Festival

The 2008 MoCCA (Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art) Art Festival will take place the weekend of June 7-8 at the historic Puck Building (293 Lafayette Street at Houston) in downtown Manhattan's famed SoHo arts district. The festival will be open to the public from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm both days. Admission starts at $10/day or $15/weekend but is only $10/weekend for MoCCA members.

Sundance Institute at BAM

Industry Night at Max the Mutt Animation School

Begins: May 29, 2008

Industry night features the work of graduating students. At 5:30 p.m., Jean LaChance of Toon Boom, worldwide leader in animation software and the tool of choice for Disney, Fox, Nelvana and Mercury Filmworks, will give a 40-minute demonstration of Storyboard Pro, Pencil Check Pro and Digital Pro. This year, for the first time our students used Toon Boom Storyboard Pro and Digital Pro to make their final films.

Florida Supercon 2008

Florida Supercon is the largest multi-genre convention in South Florida. For 2008, the event moves to the new "super-sized" location, The Hyatt Regency Bonaventure Resort in Weston, Florida.

Florida Supercon is a convention for comic book, anime, animation, sci-fi, fantasy and manga fans. Design Festa vol.27

Design Festa started in 1994, and is a freestyle International Art Event open to artists from all over the world to exhibit their creative talent. Design Festa is the biggest art event in Asia! The event features a wide diversity of creative work, including painting, sculpture, fashion and installations, as well as multimedia, film-screening, live music, and performance art. Design Festa is held twice a year in spring and fall at Tokyo Big Sight.

Animate!08 - Animation Film Festival

Animate! is the first Festival for Adult Animation of Uruguay. It started in 2005 and it had a second release in 2006.

This third edition will be held at the Plaza Arts and Events in Montevideo, Uruguay May 17-May 18, 2008.

Animation of any kind and technique are welcome to be screened in this great Cinema of Montevideo, during "Montevideo Comics", the greatest Convention for Comics, Animations and Games Arts with over 3.000 people in its last edition.

Animate! 08 -- Segunda Edicion -- International Animation Film Festival

Begins: May 17, 2008

Animate! 08 -- Segunda Edicion -- is the oldest animation film festival in Uruguay. This year it is the second edition of "Centro Cultural de España" in Montevideo, in its third year. The works accepted to this festival will be exhibited at the Cinema Auditorium of the Centro Cultural de Espana, sponsored by Animation Campus and Centro Cultural de Espana del Uruguay.

The festival has its focus in short adult animations of any kind, no matter the technique. This is a non competitive festival, and there are no fees for submission.

The Art, Science and Psychology of Production Design

Animation Artwork To Color Academy Gallery

Begins: May 16, 2008

More than 125 hand-drawn artwork pieces from such classics as ALICE IN WONDERLAND, 101 DALMATIANS, and THE LION KING, will be showcased in "Ink & Paint: The Art of Hand-Drawn Animation," a new exhibition opening on Friday, May 16, in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Grand Lobby Gallery in Beverly Hills. Admission is free.

The magic of an animated film depends on the ability to bring to life not only animated characters, but the worlds they inhabit.
