The South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival is conducting the Texas High School Film Competition. This will be the fourth year for this very popular program, which is now a regularly featured component of the film festival, scheduled March 7-15, 2008 in Austin, TX.
The Bristol School of Animation at the University of the West of England and Aardman Animations join forces for the annual storyboarding competition for 2008. Entrants are asked to produce an It can be serious, touching, funny, even a spoof, but it must be thirty seconds long with a three-second pack shot at the end and no longer than 20 frames. First prize is a free place to study either 2D drawn or 3D Stop Motion Pro in Bristol School of Animation's "Three Month Animation Course" running from June until September 2008. The prize includes accommodation.

Submissions will be exposed to public rating on Babelgum before being judged by the festival jury, led by Spike Lee. Adobe Systems Inc. is hosting the eighth annual Adobe Design Achievement Awards (ADAA). The awards honor talented and promising student graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, animators, digital filmmakers, developers and computer artists from the world's top institutions of higher education. Reflecting the growth in the interactive design field and the importance of the integration between design and development, Adobe has added several new categories in three media areas: Interactive Media, Motion Media, and Traditional Media.
Just before the launch of the much-anticipated Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario and friends are hosting four regional Wii tournaments. The competitions will visit San Francisco, Boston and New York for a Midnight Madness Launch event at the Best Buy store at 622 Broadway in New York. All of the 256 participants at each location will receive a $10 Best Buy gift card. The Independent Games Festival (IGF) is open to all independent developers to submit their games -- whether on PC, console, digital download, Web browser, or other more exotic formats. The prizes for the 2008 event total nearly $50,000, including the $20,000 Seumas McNally Grand Prize.

The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS) is hosting the D.I.C.E. (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) Summit. The D.I.C.E. The Linda Joy Media Arts Society reminds filmmakers of the upcoming Helen Hill Animated Award deadline on Oct. 26, 2007.
