Machineflesh Challenge

CGNetworks is hosting the Machineflesh Challenge (CGNetworks Challenge XV), offering prizes with a total combined value of more than $20,000. The challenge allows for artists to get involved in the online digital arts community, learn from other artists and obtain critique from fellow challengers. Two categories are run simultaneously: 3D Stills and 2D Illustration. The theme of the contest centers on the idea of human beings having organs replaced with working mechanical parts.

Anima Mundi Web 2004

Anima Mundi Web 2004 is the 5th edition of the Internet Animation Contest of the International Animation Festival of Brazil, Anima Mundi. The contest is open to works specially created for the Internet, which may or not be previously released, produced by professional or amateur animators. There is no restrictions on themes and genres. Works are accepted in a single category: animations produced in the ".swf" format only and not exceeding 1MB in size. A cyber-jury -- anyone who registers online in the Anima Mundi Website -- and the professional jury, will decide the winners.

LACDA Digital Art Competition

Los Angeles Center For Digital Art announces its juried competition featuring digital art. Entrants submit three JPEG files of original work. All styles of artwork and photography created digitally suitable for wide format output will be accepted. Show is open to artists of all geographical locations. The selected winner receives 10 archival prints of their work up to 44x60 inches on canvas or museum quality paper to be shown in a solo exhibition in our gallery. The show will be widely promoted and will include a reception for the artist.

"Comic Book Idol 2" Art Contest

"Comic Book Idol" is an amateur art competition hosted by CBR. The second edition will be hosted by J. Torres, author of the "Open Your Mouth" column at CBR (www.comicbookresources.com). It's a five-week, five-round contest in which contestants will be asked to complete an art assignment each week by a deadline. Their art will be posted in a CBR forum designed especially for judges to post comments on and critique said art, as well as for CBR readers to view and vote on their favorites.

TOKYOPOP's 4th Rising Stars Of Manga Competition

TOKYOPOP is hosting its fourth Rising Stars of Manga competition. From June 1 through August 16, aspiring artists and writers may submit their 15-to-20-page manga to TOKYOPOP for the chance to join the next generation of nationally published manga-ka. The top 10 talented winners will score cash prizes and have their winning entries presented in the next Rising Stars anthology. First prize wins $2,500, second $1,500, third $1,000 and seven runners-up take home $500 each. Past winners have received full-fledged book deals. The competition is only open to residents of the U.S.

Peabody Awards

The 63rd Annual George Foster Peabody Awards recognize outstanding achievement and excellence in television, radio and Internet programming. In celebration of its 10th anniversary, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) has put out a call for entries for "Into the Pixel," a juried exhibition of computer and videogame art to premiere at this year's E3. "Into the Pixel" is a celebration of videogame art curated by interactive entertainment industry art veterans and experts from the traditional art field. The exhibit is a joint project of E3Expo, The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, and The Graphic Arts Council of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
