USC’s Firstlook Student Screening This Friday

The USC School of Cinema-Television, Division of Animation & Digital Arts is hosting its annual FIRSTLOOK student screening. The event will take place on Friday. VES Announces 2006 Festival at Egyptian Theatre

The 2006 Festival of Visual Effects has been set for July 7-9, 2006 at the famed Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, California.

Silent Auction to Benefit Animator’s Ailing Son

Cartoon Network Studios is hosting a silent auction to raise money for the family's crisis fund to support the medical care of Nickelodeon animator Paul Sects four-year-old son Fyn, who has been diagnosed with rare form of liver cancer. The art auction, featuring many rare and never-seen animation cells, photographs and other art, will take place on April 20, 2006, at Cartoon Network in Burbank (300 N. NAB2006 Digital Cinema Summit Schedule Announced

The Digital Cinema Summit, which takes place April 22 and 23 in Las Vegas as part of the NAB conference series, announced its two-day schedule.

Spring Strikes MIP-TV

The weather is lovely in Cannes, the spring flowers are in bloom, lots of animation abounds, but many MIP-goes may not experience any of this due to an air traffic controllers strike in France that has cancelled most flights coming into Nice, the closest airport to the MIP market.

Those entered the Palais convention hall on Monday, April 3, 2006, saw a handwritten list of affected flights. While expected to be over before the weekend, this presents a hardship to those expecting to arrive and leave mid-market.

An fmx/06 Program Overview

fmx/06, the 11th International Conference on Animation, Effects, Realtime and Content, will take place May 3-6, in Stuttgart, Germany.

Topics include the latest animated movies and vfx features, the convergence of games and movies, new fields of work for animators, the latest use of realtime graphics and current trends from the Far East. There is also new cooperation with the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film, with overlapping programs, in addition to the festival award ceremony coinciding with the opening of fmx/06 on the evening of May 2.

Cascade SIGGRAPH Presents "Bring Your Own Art"

Cascade ACM SIGGRAPH, Oregon and Southwest Washingtons local SIGGRAPH chapter announced Bring Your Own Art (BYOA), scheduled to take place April 3 at 6:00 pm at The Art Institute, Exhibit Hall located at 1122 NW Davis in downtown Portland, Oregon. Annecy Announces Lineup

The Annecy International Animated Film Festival has announced the films to be shown at this years event, which will take place June 5-10, 2006, in Annecy, France.

Five feature films will compete including Oscar-winner WALLACE & GROMIT: CURSE OF THE WERE-RABBIT from Nick Park and Steve Box. The other features include international sensation ASTÉRIX ET LES VIKINGS by Stefan Fjeldmark and Jesper Moller, GIN-IRO NO KAMI NO AGITO by Keiichi Sugiyama, RENAISSANCE by Christian Volckman and XXXHOLIC by Tsutomu Mizushima.

New York Int'l Children’s Film Fest Returns — With a Twist

The New York International Childrens Film Festival, a Big Apple perennial since 1999, returns on March 11, 2006, in a different, yearlong format.

Instead of several weekends of back-to-back screenings, director Eric Beckman has organized this year's festival as weekend programs that will take place throughout 2006. "We're experimenting with a new format," Beckman explains. "We did a survey last year and 96% of the people we asked said they would go to a once a month screening.
