The Computer Animation Festival jury for SIGGRAPH 2006 selected 97 films and two award winners from 726 entries for exemplary use of computer-generated imagery and animation and compelling storytelling.

The SIGGRAPH Computer Animation Festival is an internationally recognized event that engages and inspires artists and technologists alike. Each year, it serves as a mirror of what is possible today and a window into what can be achieved in the future.

The Digital Cinema Summit, which takes place April 22 and 23 in Las Vegas as part of the NAB conference series, announced its two-day schedule.

Day 1 Program:

Produced by SMPTE, the April 22 program centers on digital cinema mastering, distribution and exhibition including d-cinema package creation, 2K and 4K projection technologies, the visual/psychological impact of 3D installation, and the progress of digital cinema installations in theatres worldwide.

fmx/06, the 11th International Conference on Animation, Effects, Realtime and Content, will take place May 3-6, in Stuttgart, Germany.

Topics include the latest animated movies and vfx features, the convergence of games and movies, new fields of work for animators, the latest use of realtime graphics and current trends from the Far East. There is also new cooperation with the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film, with overlapping programs, in addition to the festival award ceremony coinciding with the opening of fmx/06 on the evening of May 2.

The Visual Effects Society (VES) and the Los Angeles Professional Chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH are jointly sponsoring "Experiential Narrative in Games and Film," which will take on the issues of how to keep an audience engaged and participating. The event will take place March 25 at the Digital Cinema Laboratory at the Pacific Hollywood Theater, 6433 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, California, 90028. The event begins at 10:00 am with a social hour followed by the panel discussion from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

The Web & Mobile Development Conference will be launched at NAB2006 on April 25-26, 2006, in Las Vegas. This new educational technology conference, targeted toward professional Web designers, developers and content providers, will debut as part of the NAB2006 MultiMedia World Conference package.
