Video Games Live Returns To The Hollywood Bowl

Off the heels of sold-out shows around the world, videogame composers Tommy Tallarico and Jack Wall are bringing their videogames music concert back to the Hollywood Bowl for the second time on Sept. 21, 2006. The new Video Games Live concert features music from the most popular video ames performed by top orchestras and choirs, combining exclusive video footage and music arrangements, synchronized lighting, solo performers, electronic percussionists and interactive segments.

Austin Game Conference Reports Online Game Market To Grow To $4.4 Billion

New market research detailing the growth of the online game industry will be announced at the Austin Game Conference (AGC) this week on Sept. 6-8, 2006. The fourth annual Austin Game Conference will bring together more than 2,400 game industry professionals from 20 countries representing more than 520 companies.

Patrick Smith’s Puppet Makes LA Premiere This Week

New York animator Patrick Smith premieres his latest animated short, PUPPET, in Los Angeles on Thursday, Sept. 7, at 7:45 pm in the Arclight Theater. PUPPET recently become eligible for the 79th Academy Awards, and has been selected to screen at more than 50 film festivals worldwide for the 2006-2007 season.

The Arclight is located at 6360 Sunset, west of Vine Street. The L.A. premiere is hosted by the 2006 Los Angeles International Short Film Festival and is part of a line-up of other shorts.

Autodesk is participating in the 2006 International Broadcasters Convention (IBC) being held in Amsterdam from Sept. 8-12. Autodesk will publicly debut new releases of its visual effects, color grading and editing/finishing systems, and showcase the recently announced versions of its 3D animation, modeling and rendering products.

The complete program is now available online for the Visual Effects Societys eDIT 9. Filmmakers Festival in Frankfurt, Germany, Sept. 24-26.

The festival program is subdivided into the following thematic program areas: feature film, animation, commercials, television, media industry and for the first time documentary. In addition, the festival's guests of honor will be interviewed at the Festival Honors Salon.

Disney is expecting thousands of fans to show up for its first-ever ToonFest, the sold-out fan fest dedicated to the family-friendly videogame, Disneys TOONTOWN ONLINE. The event takes place this Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006, at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California. The Little Mermaid Resurfaces at Hollywood's El Capitan Theatre

Disney's Oscar-winning animated feature, THE LITTLE MERMAID, makes its digital debut during a special limited engagement from Sept. 7-24 at Hollywood's legendary El Capitan Theatre.

The engagement, which celebrates the upcoming Oct. 3 release of the special edition DVD from Walt Disney Home Ent., will spotlight an all-new digital restoration of the film with enhanced picture and sound. Plus, every show throughout the entire run will offer a live appearance by Ariel.

Video Games Concerts Growing

In 2001 when Tommy Tallarico and Jack Wall created Video Games Live, no one knew whether audiences would be interested in a concert of videogame music or whether the videogame generation actually go to an orchestral concert. However, in July 2005, the critics were silenced when the first concert filled the famed Hollywood Bowl making it the biggest videogame concert in history.

For the first time, conductor John Mauceri and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra recreate an evening of musical selections from Disneys FANTASIA with film clips on the Bowls big screens, Aug. 18 and 19, 8:30 pm. Included in THE GREAT AMERICAN CONCERT: WALT DISNEYS FANTASIA WITH FIREWORKS will be the world premiere of the deleted CLAIR DE LUNE (found in the FANTASIA ANTHOLOGY DVD box set and retitled as BLUE BAYOU on the MAKE MINE MUSIC DVD), plus a glimpse into the brilliant artwork and unfinished segments of this masterpiece. SIGGRAPH 2006, the 33rd conference on computer graphics and interactive techniques, registered 19,764 artists, research scientists, developers, filmmakers and academics from 80 countries for its conference in Boston last week (July 31-Aug. 3). More than 230 companies exhibited, including 76 first-time exhibitors.

The Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) announced the films that have been invited to compete in this years 30th anniversary event, running Sept. 20 24, 2006. From the 1,947 entries received, 106 films representing 20 countries have been chosen for Official Competitions. An additional 31 films will be shown in out-of-competition Showcase screenings.

DreamWorks Animation to Have Major Presence at SIGGRAPH 2006

On the heels of the successful worldwide launch of its latest 3D-animated feature, OVER THE HEDGE, DreamWorks Animation will assert a major presence at SIGGRAPH 2006 in Boston at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (July 30-Aug. 3).
