A Tribute to Industrial Light + Magic and Skywalker Sound

When the original STAR WARS exploded across movie screens in 1977, audiences were dazzled as never before by some of the most astounding visual and sound effects in cinema history: the iridescent glow and sudden zzzap! of Luke Skywalker's lightsaber, the adrenaline-stoked dogfights in space, the sound and fury of the Death Star's destruction. The two companies George Lucas created two years earlier to produce these wondrous effects - Industrial Light + Magic (ILM) and Skywalker Sound - would quickly grow to have a most revolutionary and profound impact on the way audiences see, hear and, most importantly, feel movies today. Join us for clip shows and conversations with the ILM & Skywalker Sound artists including ILM artists Patty Blau and Stefen Fangmeier and director James Cameron. Films to be discussed include JURASSIC PARK, THE ABYSS, STAR TREK: THE WRATH OF KHAN and many others. For a full list of appearances, please visit the Cinematheque Website. The February 6th George Lucas appearance is sold out.
