Purple Violet Student Film Festival

Kean University in Union, New Jersey is currently seeking student submissions for the Purple Violet Film Festival, an innovative new festival that provides student filmmakers with cash awards and an opportunity to have their work seen and embraced by a large audience. The 2009 Festival also features renowned filmmaker, Emily Hubley, who will screen and discuss her film “The Toe Tactic”. Ms. Hubley is best known for her award-winning short films and her animated sequence in “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” (2001). She is in the first class of Annenberg Fellows named by the Sundance Institute.

“This is our fourth annual Purple Violet Film Festival, and it gets better every year!” said Brian Oakes, Festival Coordinator. “Emerging filmmakers will be afforded an opportunity to have their work screened and viewed by a large audience that includes leading professionals in the field.”

Selected works will be presented at Kean University on April 16. A reception for the filmmakers follows the screening. The four winners will each be awarded a prize of $250.

As part of the Purple Violet Film Festival, Kean University will also hold a video contest for registered High School students. Interested students can submit a 30-second Public Service Announcement video. Three winners will be chosen and the 30-second videos will be screened at the Purple Violet Film Festival. The three High School winners will each be awarded a cash prize of $100.
