Ottawa International Animation Festival 2008

The Ottawa International Animation Festival entry deadline is fast approaching for the 2008 event taking place September 17 to 21.

One of the largest events of its kind, last year's event had a total attendance of over 27,000 with 1,500 industry passholders. The event features screenings, presentations, parties and the Television Animation Conference (Sept. 17 and 18).

The Competition and Showcase screenings feature the best animation from around the world. Each year, by the June 1 deadline, the OIAF receives more than 2,000 entries. Only 100 are selected to be screened. Animators are invited to submit their recent work in six major categories: Independent Short Films, Feature Films, New Media, Commissioned Films (TV series, commercials, music video), Student Films and Work Made For Children. There is no entry fee. Preview DVDs must be received by June 16.

The 2008 Festival will also feature retrospectives are on legendary U.S. animators Michael Sporn, Skip Battaglia and a tribute to Richard Williams plus Animated Propaganda, Blue Toons: A Night of Naughty Animation, the New Wave of Japanese Animation and Animation Across Canada. Animated music videos are in the spotlight with retrospectives on Jonas Odell (Sweden) and Christopher Mills (Canada).

Williams will be interviewed by John Canemaker at the International Animation Festival and will present THE ANIMATOR'S SURVIVAL KIT - ANIMATED. WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT? will be screened.
