New Internet Summit

IPv6 Summit, Inc. announced that the next major conference on the New Internet will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Reston, Virginia. This is the annual premier event for government and industry decision makers to unveil their programs and products for the coming year in a comprehensive set of presentations and panels.

Two esteemed pioneers of the New Internet will be keynote speakers at the conference -- Dr. Vinton G. Cerf, SVP of Technology Strategy at MCI (and world renowned as a father of the original Internet) and Dr. Charles L. Lynch, Chief of the IPv6 Transition Office at the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA, which has been tasked to spearhead the transition of the DoD to the New Internet standard).

The New Internet, officially known as Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), has been mandated by the U.S. Department of Defense as well as by other countries and Ministries of Defense to replace the existing Internet standard (Internet Protocol version 4, or IPv4), which has been in effect since 1973. The New Internet promises vast improvements in security, multimedia transmission, and mobile and wireless online operations, as well as enabling the Internet-based networking of billions of addressable devices that will create many new commercial products and services. Details of this transition, and the many important challenges and opportunities that it holds, will be presented at the conference.
