Former Walt Disney artist and Getty Museum drawing instructor Mike Wiesmeier is hosting a week sketching tour in Barcelona, Spain. In this small group setting, participants will benefit from Mike's extensive drawing and teaching experience, as well as his knowledge of Barcelona.
Wiesmeier's sketching tour of Barcelona is a great opportunity to experience a place at a slower pace--to let the sounds, sights, and smells of this amazingly diverse and vibrant city inspire you. If you do want to learn or improve drawing skills, you will certainly gain this as well. The people, architecture, artwork, and geography of Barcelona will be the drawing subjects and inspiration for this sketching tour. Your sketchbook will become a personal record of your observations--whether they be drawings or written word.
Wiesmeier's career in feature animation began at Walt Disney Feature Animation in 1994, where he worked on six feature films, including POCAHONTAS, THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, HERCULES, FANTASIA 2000, TARZAN and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. During his time at Disney Feature Animation, Mike continued his drawing studies in classes held at the studio with artists Glenn Vilppu, Steve Huston, and Walt Stanchfield, among many others.
Mike's teaching career began while working at the Disney studio in Los Angeles. He taught assistant animation at the American Animation Institute, and at CalArts. In 2003 Mike began teaching life drawing to animation artists in Boulder, CO, and animal drawing at the Denver Zoo and San Diego Zoo. In 2004 Mike became a faculty instructor at the Art Institute of California, where he has taught principles of drawing, life drawing, animal drawing, principles of animation, sculpture for animation, and character design.
