Kidding Around: The Child and Film

Representations of children in today's media intersect with contextual issues that demand scholarly consideration. As the academic and commercial markets' attention to children's literature and media increases, the need to explore how children are used, targeted, explored, and represented in books, films, games, and toys grows. The University of the District of Columbia English Film Committee is hosting a conference on the UDC campus exploring how different media, particularly film, deal with definitions of childhood, the role of the child in differing texts, and the connections scholars and critics have made with these various forms of media.

Papers may engage with individual authors and works in the process of considering the above topics or others related to the conference theme. Please email your 300-500 word abstract, cover letter, and CV by Jan. 20th to Alex Howe at the University of the District of Columbia, ahowe@udc.edu.
