John Canemaker Hosts Mary Blair Lecture in NYC

Animation historian John Canemaker will appear at MoMA with a colorfully illustrated multimedia presentation: THE ART AND FLAIR OF MARY BLAIR, based on his new Disney Editions book. The Dec. 5 lecture/demo will begin at 6:30 pm and will be preceded by a book signing. Using nearly 300 illustrations, Canemaker will describe the art and life of Blair, a prolific and gifted designer/colorist who was one of the few female artists to reach the top creative rungs at the Disney studio. She profoundly influenced the color and design of many classic Disney animated features, including THE THREE CABALLEROS, CINDERELLA and PETER PAN, as well as theme park attractions, most notably the "It's A Small World" boat ride created for the 1964 New York World's Fair. At 1:00 pm on Dec. 6, the museum will screen a rare 35mm print of Disney's ALICE IN WONDERLAND, the 1951 cartoon feature principally art directed by Mary Blair.
