Jasper Morello Filmmakers at De Anza College

ASIFA-San Francisco will be hosting 2006 Oscar nominee Anthony Lucas and producer Julia Lucas of the film, THE MYSTERIOUS GEOGRAPHIC EXPLORATIONS OF JASPER MORELLO, at De Anza College - Advanced Technology Center Theatre (Room #120) at 7:00 pm.

Inspired by the works of Jules Verne and Edgar Allen Poe, Australian animator Anthony Lucas has created a gothic horror mystery with exceptionally strong design. Set in an airborne world of iron dirigibles and steam-powered computers, THE MYSTERIOUS GEOGRAPHIC EXPLORATIONS OF JASPER MORELLO tells the story of a disgraced aerial navigator who flees his Plague-ridden home on a desperate voyage to redeem himself. Lucas combines classic shadow puppets with 3D digital models rendered as silhouettes to forge one of the most innovative animation techniques seen in recent years.

Visiting the Bay Area in the week between the BAFTAs and the Oscars, Anthony Lucas will screen his early films, explain his novel compositing of 2D silhouette cutouts with 3D models, display production materials and discuss the evolution of his style.
