Gil Alkabetz Retrospective & Workshop

An evening with the creator of many award-winning short animated films, presented by the Toronto Animated Image Society in partnership with Goethe Institut and the National Film Board of Canada.

Best known for his animation in the award-winning film, RUN LOLA RUN, dir. Tom Tykwer, Alkabetz joins us from Stuttgart, Germany, to present his retrospective and to discuss ideas of storytelling.

Films will be shown on its original format of 35mm.

Gil Alkabetz was born in 1957 in the Mashabei Sade Kibbutz, Israel. He studied Graphic Design at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem and worked as an animator and director in the Jerusalem studio Frame by Frame. He later worked as a freelance animator and illustrator and taught at various art schools in Israel.

In 1995 Alkabetz moved to Stuttgart, where he was an independent filmmaker. He was Guest Professor at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, Denver, and at the Lucerne School of Art and Design. Alkabetz is a member of the German Film Academy and currently works as Guest Professor at the Film & Television Academy HFF Konrad Wolf in Potsdam-Babelsberg.
