The Nepean Museum is hosting a special exhibition on animation as part of its 25th anniversary celebration. Titled "Creating Cartoons: Three Decades Of Disada Animation And Comics," the exhibition shows the many production steps involved in making a classic cartoon film. Original character designs, animation drawings, backgrounds, storyboards and other production steps are on display. A television monitor shows the finished product.

The original artwork displayed is from Disada Productions, an animation company now in its third decade. As Disada produced Canada’s first newspaper comic strip for daily in black and white and for the weekend in color, the steps in making a comic strip are also featured, from sketches to publication.

There is also a display on Hollywood cartoons, showing vintage artwork, merchandising and publicity on characters from Disney, Warner Bros and other studios. In addition to its productions, Disada has been producing animation exhibitions in museums around the world for more than 25 years, on Disney, Warner Bros. and other subjects.

There will be rare animation-related items for sale, including original artwork and other Hollywood cartoon items such as original movie posters, buttons, books, figurines and more.

Special screenings of rare actual animation films on the big screen and walk-through guided tours with detailed commentary are planned for the duration of the exhibit.

The Nepean Museum is open daily, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends. It is located at 16 Rowley Avenue in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
