5D - The Future of Immersive Design

The Art Directors Guild (ADG) and the University Art Museum (UAM) of California State University, Long Beach will host an innovative two-day conference called 5D - The Future of Immersive Design. It will be the first-ever conference dealing with the convergence of visual storytelling and design technology across all narrative media and will take place October 4-5. 5D will explore the new role of design in these five dimensions, thus the name 5D: Film, TV, Animation, Interactive, and Environment. The venue for the conference will be the Carpenter Performing Arts Center at CSU, Long Beach. A two-day international conference, 5D will bring together an eclectic gathering of recognized industry pioneers, visionaries and experts. The event will be comprised of six in-depth panels, a keynote address from renowned MIT media analyst Henry Jenkins, sponsored workshops and a marketplace allowing more personal contact. The flagship panels will include the following innovators from the entertainment sector: Rick Carter, Production Designer for WAR OF THE WORLDS and POLAR EXPRESS; Doug Chiang, production designer and executive vice president, Imagemovers Digital; Peter Frankfurt, co-founder/co-director, Imaginary Forces; Alex McDowell, production designer, MINORITY REPORT and WATCHMEN; John Tarnoff, head of show development, DreamWorks Animation; John Underkoffler, design and engineering consultant and science/technology advisor for MINORITY REPORT and THE HULK; Anne White, visionary brand communications executive; and Habib Zagarpour, senior art director, Electronic Arts.
