Beg pardon?

Hey, if you want to be patronized, there's plenty of other forums out there that will suckle upon your teat.
If you would like straight answers and honest opinions that will serve in schooling and industry, then the forums here will supply that to you.
Its up to you if you want reality or bull&$@*.

who the f**** are you?

Wow. Just...wow...

why waste everyone's time with posting a thread about it?

Mwa ha ha ha

Ha ha haaa!

I've got to admit purplegoose I hear you.

What you have to realise is that this forum has been running a long long time and it's become a little creaky. There is no where near as much traffic, very little new blood and so we are left with....the old men of animation, and they have a tendency to see the glass half empty even when it's full.

Beware there but for the grace of God go you ...give it a few years animators age in something like dog years.

Interesting fact and I maybe posted this before:
did you know animators have the highest suicide rate after dentists?

Half empty????

Beg pardon..........if I saw the glass as that, I wouldn't bother posting in a forum like this at all. LOL!

I don't use a glass, I drink from a tankard.

Old Men? Oooh, can I be Milt Kahl? Huh? Can I? Can I, can I, can I ?!? Pleeeaaase!

hehe :P

More Old Men

Old Men? I want to be Ward Kimball- he was amazing!

People my age (almost 35 years in the profession) would not be still doing their craft if the passion for the art form was gone. It's usually the younger folks who just want the money who drop out along the way. The ones who have the passion remain.

Thanks.

Wait, there's "money" in animation? ;)

I think I was Ollie Johnston in one of those facebook quizes.

And stay of my LAWN!!! Damn kids now a days!

Hey Goose I don't hang around here as much as I used to, but things used to be different. I am a freelancer, self taught flash animator. We used to share techniques and tips. Then it got into a bragging contest of who was more qualified and made more money.

Sorry you haven't had a chance to meet and talk with Larry. He was great when the board was first starting. People used to view and critique and give a lot of encouragement in the Show and Tell forum too. Today it seems to be more about recruiting students and patting industry veterans on the back.

Too bad it was great when I was first learning the ropes. Not that some here on the board today would say that I know anything. But I did like sharing tips on software and techniques. I am really sorry it's not as welcoming today.

they really should lighten up on new people. I remember someone just getting into animation asked the question what would I need to learn before Im any good at it. I suggested two or three things that were simple to work on, easily achievable. but others gave a laundry list of levels that would have to be achieved.

I responded with there is better way to introduce people to animation. and the sentiment essentially was, if thats too much for the person to accomplish tough.

regardless of age if your not knowledgable about a subject. you have the mind of a kindergartner as far that subject is concerned. telling someone at that level you have to become a master of calculus before thier able to understand basic math. cant help but be discouraging, posssibly turn some away from animation all together

Phacker et al

Hello.

I always enjoyed Phacker's posts - everyone around here does not agree on everything (and that's an over statement).

I don't always post here because I want to see what folks have to say without me having to jump in....

Every post does come into my email inbox so I can moderate behavior.

I enjoy the times when we talk directors, films, characters and story.

Never was a tech. person...

I do have my opinions - which some folks still take as absolutes - and that is too bad for them.

Having been in the biz for almost 35 years - a lot of water has gone under the bridge.

Do I do my postings at other forums outside AWN? - definitely not!

I don't have the time nor the inclination.

Thanks.

Hi Larry. I remember those early discussions where we discussed all the aspects of animation: like story, character, the importance of drawing skills and timing. I learned a lot from your insight. And it made me a better viewer and consumer of animation as well as improving my attempts at animation. Tony was patient and generous with his time as well.

Thanks.

As far as content of this forum now, if any one ask a question, I am sure there will be a number of helpful responses. It has been a while sense I have seen any technical questions. I know I as one about cross hatching so I know if I come up with something else I am sure I will get helpful advice.
