Old Student new questions

I'm really excited to be a part of an animation network!

My question is what laptop and what desktop should I purchase next?
I have two barely adequate computers and would like a computer that can handle my large Maya files.
Do have to have one built one or are there some of you out there that have computers that are really running Maya like it's a WIZ?

My mind and ears are open.

More important than the computer brand, are the components.
Find out which components you want, then find the cheapest computer config that offers them. For what it's worth, we've been using Xi computers with few complaints.

I recommend a minimum of 8 gigs of RAM, the Quadro FX 3800 video card, and a Xeon Quad-core 64-bit processor, although you might want to wait for the 8-core Xeons to be released.

Maya must say what the requirements are for thier software. I have no idea but what ever you get, you should think about adding an external hard drive.

Great Computer Advice

WOW,
That is the best answers I have ever gotten. Already this forum has helped me.
Yes, Maya's website does give system requirements....however experience from those that have home computer's and use Maya...that is information that is invaluble!

Thanks guys,
