Comedy Central has struck a deal with Twentieth Century Fox Television to air 26 new episodes of "Futurama" ....
Cool! The TV movies were so-so. The episodic format should be better for the material.
I hope they do bring that show back. That story has been kicking around for over a year. Did you see this news in a press release?
It's in the LA Times link.
...we must all face a choice, between what is right... and what is easy."
The Futurama voices might be recast to save money.
"... Producing studio 20th TV is proceeding with auditioning new actors for the roles after failing to reach an agreement with the original voice cast: John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, Billy West, Tress MacNeille and Katey Sagal.
"When, under similar circumstances another canceled Fox/20th TV animated series, "Family Guy," was resurrected with a pickup of new episodes by Adult Swim in 2005, the show's entire voice cast came back for what is described as approximately the same salaries they were paid when "Guy" aired on Fox from 1999-2002.
"The cast of "Futurama," which ran on Fox from 1999-2002, are said to have been offered modest pay increases but have insisted for bumps of several times what they used to make."
I suspect that these are bargaining ploys, and they'll eventually come to some arrangement, but we'll see.
I hope the original voices come back, but as long as the style of the show is the same, it should be fine.
Yeah, I was so happy to hear they were bringing the show back...but so disappointed to hear that we WEREN'T gonna be able to hear Fry or Leela or John DiMaggio's voices again. :(
"...the entire voice cast of Futurama has just signed a new contract with Fox..."
The new episodes are expected to air mid-2010.[URL=http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b137147_futurama_save...
