choosing a uni to study animation

there really ought to be a sticky for folks to come to

there appears to be many threads covering the same thing and many more from students who have chosen poorly

-------

to start

-------

1. research the schools. this goes beyond just looking at their webpage. the webpage will have been written by marketing folks who either know little about the specialist area of animation or have been written to paint over the cracks. visit the school, insist on meeting the staff. if the staff are not practicing animators, then move on. talk to the students. all students in all schools will have something to grumble about, but it the nature of these grumbles which should be considered. consider the course resources, their industry contacts, and what life drawing facilities they have. get a thorough tour. ask to take away a showreel of student work as this is a great barometer for the type of things that will be taught on the course. uni is getting expensive and you should insist on seeing where that money goes.
