Flash... Toon Boom... The Tab

Hey I'm curious,

What are the pros using for broadcast vector animation? I'm specifically wondering about shows like:
-Dexter's Lab
-Samurai Jack
-Power Puff Girls
-Fairly Odd Parents
-Mucha Lucha
-Xiaolin Showdown
-Clone Wars
-Foster's Home
etc.

I've heard many use Illustrator and then compile in Flash. But it seems that for many of them Toon Boom would make sense especially for frame by frame and camera move stuff. Or have I totally missed the point of everyone saying US Animation over and over again...

Any way, if you no for sure (or close to it) what software is being used for these shows I would love it if you chimed in. Basically, I'm considering focusing my efforts on heading into 2d and while I'm building a new reel, I'd love to be using the "majority" software for broadcast (and yes, I understand that a good reel doesn't matter what software you used to do it in, but having the right software on the resume doesn't hurt).

Thanks,

Toon Boom has an extensive client list available on their website. It also seems funny to me that almost all of the major productions listed on the Digicel Flipbook page are also credited (more publicly) to Toon Boom.

One more thing... I'm not entirely interested in starting an argument on the virtues or sins of the various softwares (I'll sum them all up: they all have advantages but none of them are perfect). I'm mostly just interested in knowing what's out there being used for broadcast animations. :)

Much Lucha is done in Flash. Foster's is animated in Flash and the other stuff is done in Illustrator. Dexter, PPG, Samurai Jack and Clone Wars are done by hand. I dunno what program they use for ink/paint. Probably Opus or Flipbook.

Spoooze!

Awesome. Thanks.

One question, when you say Illustrator, do you mean they ink it in illustrator and then use something like AE/Shake (or even straight to editing) to put it all together?

I would also love some more information on how to use Illustrator and import
the work and animate in flash.

For some strange reason, i do better work in illustrator than any other program :)

is flipbook a "pro" program? when I looked it up onetime online it looked like it was just for printing your own flipbooks.

You must be thinking of another program. Digicel Flipbook is a professional ink/paint software. Don Bluth studios uses it and probably a few other studios.

Other Studios that use FlipBook.

A few of the other studios that use DigiCel FlipBook include Disney, Warner Bros., Universal Studios, Klasky-Csupo, Toon City, Toon Manila and Top Draw.

i assumed people must be using Opus or Concerto coz they are superexpensive with a lot of options for a big production.
