University of Kent - Computer Animation

How good is the MSc. in Computer Animation course in the University? And what are the job prospects once I complete the course? Thanks in advance. :)

Doesn't anyone know? <_< Sorry for bumping it up so soon...

Hi atreya2011

This forum is filled to bursting with questions about the quality of university animation courses. It's perfectly understandable but looking at the question from the other side, one of the best animators I know did an Engineering degree so..

Personally I think any course is only as good as it's students because it's your fellow students who are going to inspire and push you most, not the tutors.

I don't know the course in question but I did do the Foundation course at the Maidstone KIAD and that was brilliant. Very creative, totally made you question and reassess all the stuff you thought you knew, which is exactly what you need after coming out of school.

Job prospects? Well if you're very good/well connected you could be directing commercials for Nexus or Passion within a year if you make a project that really makes a splash. Otherwise there is plenty of work in the Games Industry in Brittania.

Good luck

good programs

The top programs attract the best students. So, the better the program, the better the students and the more they will challenge you. They go hand in hand.:)

Ah well, I perfectly understand what you are talking about. I am more interested in the quality of education (even though it all depends on the students in the end).

If you're expecting to be spoonfed then you're going to be dissappointed. Farnham probably has one of the best records as an animation course in Britain and it's well known for herding people in and leaving them to it.

I am not expecting to be spoonfed. By quality of education, I mean, is it worth spending approximately 12000 pounds for the course. That is a lot of money in my country.

Believe me atreya2011, £12000 is a lot of money here too.

Christ, is that how much it takes to get told about bouncing balls these days?

Anyway, like I said I don't know the course. What I do know is what I learnt directly from the tutors in 5 years of full-time Art school education (at some fairy respected establishments) here in Blighty you could count on the fingers of one hand.

Good luck

Heh, Thanks for the tip anyway. And its 12000 for international students. 5000 or something for UK and EU students. <_<
