Advice please! How to get a job with a production facility, Soup2Nuts in particular

I'm a sound designer and film editor whose specific ambition is to work for Soup2Nuts someday. I'm starting to think about what areas I should expand into to help make this happen. At heart I want to work on post-sound, but I do have some editing experience (Final Cut). My current day-job is making audiobooks, which is virtually dialog editing. I have a fairly long resume of sound design/editing credits in film, tv, and theater and I'm trying to build a strong portfolio of audio for animation. Any suggestions out there? I'm considering taking some flash classes and I think I should learn Avid, since I've noticed that they have Avid suites, and its a good program to know anyhow.
Thanks for any advice.

Tell them you want to work for them

Sunny,

Call Soup2Nuts and ask to speak with the person in charge of the Sound department. What you want is an "informational interview" with this person.

Ask for five minutes of their time. Tell them that you want to work for their company. Ask them what skills and experience they look for. Also, ask how you can best find out about job openings. Ask about the backgrounds of their other Post Sound pros. Above all, be professional.

If you're still talking after five minutes, tell them that the five minutes is up and is it okay to continue. Don't ask for job or an interview, but do ask if you may send your resume, and if so, send it directly to the person that you spoke with.

___Send your interviewee a THANK YOU NOTE.____ Not an e-mail, not on voice mail, not (*shudder*) a txt msg. Write a thank you note on a card or stationary and mail it the same day as your phone interview! Everyone says to do this, so few people actually do. You will stand out as a thoughtful, respectful person. I take notes of my informational interviews and have my thank you card, envelope and stamp sitting right there. As soon as I hang up the phone, I write the thank you note. Even a quick "thank you for your time" is better than nothing.
