Aqua teen movie FLOPS HARD!!!

Opening weekend, it made only 3 million dollars, and came in 12TH PLACE!!!

HA! HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!

GOOD. Maybe now we'll stop making these mean-spirited drug trips, and instead focus on bringing DECENT animation with GOOD stories to the theater.

I think that your celebration may be in error, my friend. Whereas each episode must cost something like $300 to produce, if they have, in fact, made 3 million dollars in profit, then they now have the funds needed to make another 10,000 episodes. :(

You're right. I think that is a huge success for Cartoon Network, especially after that HUGE misunderstanding with those "lite brite" advertising things.

And they've got the rest of its theater run to go, plus the DVD release.

I dunno about more episodes, but it does give Adult Swim a bigger budget to make some NEW shows, which should mean more work for animators.

Huzzah.

Well if you did drugs maybe you would apprecieate it a little more. Not that I'm advocating it, and have you actually seen the movie? I haven't because its not in any of the theatres around where I live. So considering that the majority of theaters aren't even showing the movie, I would say 12th place isn't so bad. Its hard to put a movie on a Gross list that isn't even showing in the majority of theatres. Movies.com gives it an A by the way. So I don't know how bad it could be.
Also, it is the first animated movie I have seen actually showing in theatres in a long time. Why? Probably because people bought the season, and enjoy the show on adult swim. Its better then no 2D movies in theatres at all.

Considering the budget was only $750K or so, and that the film opened in only 877 theaters, and considering the only publicity has been that some of their staff were accused of being terrorists, I'd say that's a pretty decent showing.

They weren't Cartoon Network staff. They were from an independant ad agency.

...we must all face a choice, between what is right... and what is easy."

The movie has already made $3 million at the box office and was only an estimated $750K to make. That has to be good considering it was limited release.

Well, in any case, it would be a bit misguided to celebrate the failure of the movie, wouldn't it. Certainly it wouldn't help anyone or anything.

$75K to make... made $3,000,000 back... that's not too bad.

Plus it was a limited release, I bet it would have made more if it was a wide release.

Not that I am defending the movie... imo it looks horrible from the trailers and clips I've seen... just awful.

The ATHF movie was funny but it could have been a whole lot better. The opening scene with the singing movie condiments was hilarious.

They made their money back 4 times over in just three days.

I don't know. The theater where I saw it had barely a dozen people in it but maybe it was just because almost nobody even knew it was even playing at that particular theater which almost never carries movies in limited release.

I think this movie shows the freedom in America and the freedom in Animation.

Of course this movie isn’t the best example of animation, of course this isn’t the best example of comedy, however it does what all animators and movie makers are trying to do, and that is entertain their audience (and possibly make money).

This movie just shows that there is nothing stopping you from sharing your ideas. Anyone with a computer and simple animation skills can share what they wish with the world.

I'm actually sort of impressed that they could sustain the entertainment given that the typical format is just 15 mins more or less, right? And they went to feature-length?

Them's good eatins.
