New Guy's Artwork

Hi everyone,

I'm new around here, just thought to find a place to share my work. I'm an illustrator, but just on the side when I feel like it. Would like to find the passion to go professional, but just don't have that drive anymore. Prayerfully, it'll come back someday. Maybe showing off my work instead of keeping it to myself like I usually do will kickstart something in me to fully pursue art once again. But, I must not force it. Must let it come back naturally. For now, I'll just toy around with my art. Maybe go to animation school one day. Hope you like my work! Critique away!

These are some character designs for a book for adults designed as a children's book. The series is to be called "The Herald's Tales of Americana". These characters are for the first installment of this series. It is to be titled "The Tale of True Freedom". The message is to be very classical and has a classic element: A moral to the story. Except this children's book is aimed at adults. The message of the story is: True freedom is not being able to do whatever one wishes, but true freedom is to do what is right, and to follow the truth while going against one's nature not to do and follow the truth.

I just feel that America has forgotten the true value of our freedom and that we waste it so readily, including me. I believe we all need to use it wisely by seeking the truth, find the true path into eternity, and doing what is right and just. Kind of heavy stuff, but I believe people waste too much time on the pointless. I hope to use my art one day to enlighten others and not to distract them from the things that really matter.

I wonder if that all sounded corny to y'all :P

Very impressive work. It reminds me a lot of final fantasy concept art in someways. The colours mainly. The character designs are really unique and eye catching. Can't wait to see more :>

You haveing talent alone is reason enough to persue illustration.. these

Thank y'all very much! I do enjoy seeing people's reaction to what I can do, but I end up killing my own excitement by explaining away their compliments and that it isn't as good as it could be. I kill my enthusiasm much too quickly. I tend to down myself before I ever get too excited about anything I create, at least I used to. I believe that is one of the many reasons why I haven't produced as much as I could of over the years. I'm 23, so I'm still young. Anyway, here's some more.

Here's a random assortment of styles I'm presenting. I used to be obsessed with the idea that there was a "master style" and that it could only be found my mastering all known, well established styles. Then, after getting a grasp on the driving ideas of each of these styles, one would combine all the keypoint elements of each style and create a master hybrid style. Thats one of the reasons I pushed myself to draw as many different styles as I could. So I could one day take all my knowledge to develop a master style. I don't really pursue that anymore :) I realize all styles are already at their pinnacle and all styles have their place. I grew up dreaming to be a true master, so I pushed myself really hard. I also sacrificed my teen years in my closet of a room pursuing to be a master. I definitely helped me art wise, but it sure hurt me in other ways! I'm a total shy-guy!

hummmmmm?

Hey there Poo,

I end up killing my own excitement by explaining away their compliments and that it isn't as good as it could be. I kill my enthusiasm much too quickly.

Don't be so hard on yourself....sounds to me, you need some confidence skills with your talents. You are still young and have alot to learn. Yes you are talented and sounds like you sacrificed a few years of your young life to achieve the level you are at today. Sacrafice is not a selfish act, even if it is to better ones self. It's called self preservation (hahah).

A true master is an artist that can draw or produce anything he puts his mind to and also have the ability to create original art of there own charicteristics that are truely your own. All artist rob and steal from one another to create and add certain looks to our art to achieve what we are looking for. You are wrong about all other styles of art are at their pennacle. (They are not)
There has only been one artist in history to ever achieve the so called pinnacle of his own abilitiy and that was Piccaso. His signature was worth as much as his art. (if not more)
OK, I should get off my soap box (haha)

Your work is good and I can see that you have some refined illustration skills. Now is a good time in your life to decide which direction to take your art. There are hundreds of directions you can go. your future is in your hands my freind. Just remember this lil quote I coin'd myself.

" As artist, Our futures are pulled by the horses of fame and fortune, but reined by the hands of reallity."

Good luck to you in your quest and we all will be here to help you on this quest. With honest opinions and suggestions.

keep drawing and posting! oh if you ever have the time paruse my gallery and notice all the different styles.

Hey!

I'm with Caruneman and Nonsense on this! Your work rocks. And it's even better because you have your own style and way of doing things. I believe an artist needs to be it's own biggest crit, but there's a border in there somewhere you shouldn't cross so you don't get demotivated!

I work with a lot of artists in my spare time, and the best ones are the ones willing to work as hard as possible, not the talented ones who wait for oppertunities to come to them. I guess what I'm saying is, work as hard and as much as possible at making yourself better, but don't break yourself down, but then don't become a slag sitting there saying 'look at how good I am' either. Your work is really really great, you got a new fan here, just keep an objective head on your shoulders and do work to make yourself proud. That will shine through!

Anyway, keep them posting, and enjoy doing it!

Damn that clawed machine sketch is dope! i love that style of shading..
reminds me of a guy named jerner on here awhile back...what do you struggle with most when doing up a character? i suck at hands pretty bad haha..maybe we can share some tips.

Hey Nonsense,

Thankee! I like him too! He's a character I had for years now. He's actually a man who tried creating a forced ascension (becoming a god) physiologically within himself through scientific methods, and it worked, but he has to get people to succumb to him and sacrfice and physically give themselves to him in order for his godlike power and longevity to be maintained. His name is Dragon Lord. His body is comprised of his original human form plus his overlying carapace of human parts of those he enveloped into himself through physical embrace (those who sacrifice themselves to him). His overlying carapace gives him the strength of all those he has consumed, plus, his body can shape itself into anything, as long as there is sufficient human matter to do so. Every step he takes, his body loses a piece or two, so its constantly reconfiguring itself. He's basically an undead automaton having to constantly maintain itself.

Anyway, I have lots of problems with feet, or hands coming straight at the viewer. I can do them, but I can't just zoom through it. Tips??? Hmmmm.... Can't say for sure right now. Would have to think about it. You could just chop a hand off and leave it on your desk for easy reference. Get it stuffed and pose it to whatever you need. I know you only need one hand to draw, right? :D You've already tried that? Your'e dog ate the first hand you stuffed? Hmmm... quite a quandry, my dear friend...

Here's a character I did a couple months back that was barefoot. I faired okay with the feet, I guess.

I'll join the chorus, great work. I'm not a fan of all the colours of the rainbow in a single picture but you make it work as your style. The drawing as such, varied, which I appreciate a lot. I like to be amazed by different approaches by one and the same artist.

yep.. you nailed the feet alright, and the hand ha, im lagging so behind in thoughs parts.... soon to be fixed though, i hope.

by the way nice epic story on your character ha...coo stuff man

yup you nailed it

Nice work...

Here's some more stuff! I'll just keep going till I run out. I got beaucoup stored from over the years that I did either for commission or for myself (which it usually was). I hated commissioned work! Man, talk about bore my brain out! And trying to figure out what they wanted... ugh... its bad enough I can't even figure out what i want half the time!
