Silhouette Animation Pricing 2D

How much would a second of quality silhouette animation set a person back?

1 second @ 12 frames per second, single character or object with subtle movement
black & tranparency (+alpha at the animator's discretion)
256 by 256 pixels

Budget silhouette animation?

1 second @ 12 frames per second, single character or object
black & tranparency
64 by 64 pixels (if smaller matters)

EDIT: 5 seconds might be a more reasonable query.

I worked on a job that was paying $18 per second of animation. This was a Flash animation cartoon series, not a simple silhouette animation for an avatar or logo (or whatever you require).

What was your framerate? $18 a second works out to $1.50 a frame @ 12 FPS. I assume that $18 per second was an all inclusive rate? (Background, all moving objects, lip sync, etc?)

Game sprite. $1.50 per frame seems kinda high for one frame of silhouette animation. A bunch of seconds will quickly add up.

25 fps down here. Animating on 2's generally, and 1's for complicated actions. We were a few animators brought in to finish extra scenes as the studio was slightly behind. Those full-time animators working on the series in-house were getting $25 per hour rather than a per second of anim rate.

As an individual, it is probably a bit high for what you want. I'm not sure a 1 second 64 x 64 pixel anim would be worth pursuing for most, but I could be wrong.

Good luck with your project. :)

Basically 12 fps. Kinda. Sorta. Maybe. =)

Do you have an online portfolio? I'm curious about what they got for $18 per second. (And at the same time sure that it is way more complex than what I need.)

The work a full timer does probably scales a little differently, but how many seconds of animation do you suspect $25 per hour translates to?

Yes and no; it depends on what you want to do with it. One 1 second 64 x 64 pixel animation is essentially useless, but one-hundrend 4 second animations at that resolution could be useful. Right now I'm trying to come up with a nieve budget estimate.

Good luck with your project. :)

Thanks!
