Video Games: the most successful animation industry

The Rev download service could be alright. From what I understand you can rent or buy- but it sounds like either way it'll be pay-for-play. This option is great for old/casual gamers that left when the industry was marginalized in boardrooms.

Absolutely. 3D doesn't improve everything. Look at Warcraft II and III. II rocked. III was tedious and lacked the grand scope of war that the first two had. Isometric was perfectly fine for the type of game it was. Marginalized by technology.

Viewtiful Joe has made some strides towards bridging the gap between old and new gamers. So has Metal Slug. Both take advantage of newer techs and do a very nice job of side scrolling action (and have some pretty sweat animation to boot).

My biggest concern is that so much of the gaming industry(make that entertainment industry) is heading towards a buy and continue to rent structure for gaming. Everquest, World of Warcraft, XBox Live, Star Wars Galaxies, to name a few and now Rev download system.... Everything is going to cost money to continue using in the future. It won't be long before games you can just buy and play by yourself without paying rent on will be in the minority. Not everyone wants to play online games against college dropouts, highschool 'pros' or Evercrack addicts, and some people can't (due to broadband availability/cost). I would imagine that after Twighlight Princess the next Zelda or Metroid for the Rev will be some MMORPG.

Hahahahaha... No, not Hash or Poser. We worked with 3DS Max 7. Not my choice of packages due to a lot of bugs, but for game animation, it steps up productivity a GREAT DEAL, through the use of Character Studio. One can make a decent walk cycle in less than an hour using all the copy/paste (and the ever-handy paste opposite) features. NOw the Max 8 appears to have fewer bugs, and better control over Character Studio, but I have yet to try it.

Cheers

Cool. I've heard a bit about 3DS Max. Never really looked at it much.

So, is there a Prince of Persian 4 planned?

Did you guys do any modeling or rigging or just animation?

Sorry, I have a lot of questions  I don't know much about how games are made. I have a general idea but I don't know a whole bunch.

A lot of people site A Link To The Past as the Zelda game, but I think it's one of the weakest of the series altogether. Not that I don't love it. I think Link's Awakening had a number of plusses over the SNES game despite the fact it was on the original Gameboy. The ultimate Zelda games for me are the originals The Legend Of Zelda and The Adventure Of Link. To this day I'm the only one I know of (personally) who has completed Adventure Of Link! :o I also think Wind Waker is the only sequel to truly capture the spirit of the originals, so I am a huge fan of that, too.

Regarding Clock Tower, that is indeed a very spooky game, although I spend more time flipping through my Japanese dictionary than I do actually playing it. Still fun... and educational for me (maybe)!

When I say it's "the" Zelda game for me I mean for purely sentimental reasons. I'm not really in a position to competently judge the whole series, having only ever beaten A Link to the Past and played NES Zelda 1 and 2, Ocarina of Time and several GameBoy titles. (Link's Awakening and Oracle of Ages and Seasons.)
I never got too warm with the various GameBoy instalments. I like A Link to the Past best because it's a very classic Zelda/fantasy adventure story: evil wizard kidnaps princess, hero combs dungeons for items of power and eventually uses them to kick evil wizard butt.
(I just wish Link had more of a personality, always crossing the path of countless beautiful lasses and never, ever making a real move, valiant dork! Ah, the ever silent hero of Japanese RPG/action-adventure type games. Talk to me, Crono!)
I'd like to give Wind Waker a try because I find the graphic style really interesting. Unfortunately, no one among my friends and acquaintances onws a Cube I could borrow ...

There is an (inofficial) English translation of Clock Tower, by the way. I'd play it myself but I have trouble concentrating on gameplay if a game is throbbing with eerie atmosphere. (System Shock 2 was pure horror for me, and not just because of the very obvious horror elements in it.)

To my mind, another quite well animated SNES jump 'n run was Pitfall: A Mayan Adventure, but I think that's because it had the same graphcis crew behind it like Earthworm Jim. Not sure whether Doug TenNaple did any animation on it, but I'm sure I read somewhere he did all the Earthworm Jim character animation for the first EWJ title ...

I do like the characters and it probably isnt a BAD game, but i played it for a bit and didnt really care too much about buying it. Im sure if your 13 and under its a great game though.

Yeah, I like the characters too. I'd like to just be able to watch the cut scenes and skip all the gameplay. If someone likes Mario-style games as well as cartoons like Invader Zim and Corpse Bride, they will probably dig this game (Psychonauts).

student artists paid work

Are there any student illustrators out there looking to earn some money?

Looking for someone with animation, solid colours style, that would be suitable for children - skills in illustrator photoshop etc.

I really dug the first Zelda, didn't have a game boy, and really didn't like The Adventure of Link (even though I finished it 3 or 4 times :)), I just got tired of having to talk to everyone in the village, and the combat was pretty poorly utilized. The graphics and tone of the whole thing just really lost what appealed to me with the first Zelda.

Ocarina was pretty cool. The graphics were nicely done, but the maps, combat control, and level design really sold it for me, and the story wasn't bad either.

But yeah, Wind Waker was pretty sweet. It did do a nice job of capturing the intended mood of the first one (with a lot more depth). I loved the 2.5D effects (like the simple sprite particle systems for splashes and explosions).

Just in time for the holiday season, here's another game recommendation.

I've played many games since my last post in this thread, five months ago, but the most unique one I've played is Dreamfall.

It feels more like a novel or movie than your typical video game, since it's grounded more in story than in fighting, strategy, or puzzle-solving.
If you prefer a challenging game, or one where you're blowing things up most of the time, this probably isn't the game for you.

My biggest complaint is the stiff character animation, having been spoiled by the animation in Half-Life 2, but it's no worse than the character animation in 90% of the games out there.

Wow, Wade! I didn't know you worked on the Prince of Persia games! That's so cool! Ubisoft is one of my favorite studios. Are you working on Assassin's Creed too?

Let's see, what games recently have turned me on? I really liked Shadow of the Collossus, Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, Beyond Good and Evil, the Prince of Persia trilogy, Psychonauts, Sly Cooper series, Paper Mario, and Okami. Okami just came out recently, but it's absolutely amazing. I really dig artsy games.

As far as old school, you can't go wrong with Earthworm Jim, Yoshi's Island, Chrono Trigger, Castlevania and Metroid games, and Secret of Mana. Oh, and a boy and his blob and Maniac Mansion.

I really like the Xenosaga series too, just because it's interesting what they talk about, if just a little tedious at times.

I have been off of games for a few years now but two weeks ago I bought Myst: Revelation. Keeping the game playing to just the weekends is a good thing for me. I have a hard time knowing when to quit and after four hours of nonstop playing, I am always left a little depressed. I love games but they do a number on my brain.

I wish I could get "Timeslip" but it is not coming out for my platform.

I finally got PoP - Two Thrones and I think it's pretty bitchin'. It really combines the best of part one and two. I'm not so fond of the Dark Prince passages because I don't like playing under pressure. Then again, I wouldn't want to pass on the guy, either, since the character as such is interesting and brings quite some snark to the dialog.
I've also fallen in love with Tim Schafer's Psychonauts. Why that man settles for developing poorly-selling video games is beyond me. Looking at the plots, settings and characters he thinks up for them he'd be better off writing for animated features and shows. All who are interested in learning more about character development and design should give Psychonauts and his earlier LucasArts work Grim Fandango a shot. Comfort food for the twisted brain.

Time Splitters 2 has some nicely done animation although the gameplay gets some getting used to.

I've only seen cutscenes from these but the Jak and Daxter games have some nice animation, especially the Daxter character.

Now THIS is a topic....

Hey it's me gamecon,Back in action,Got busy for my exams for quite long.Thats why i've been inactive......but now im FREE....for now....Gaming Is NOT only animation's best history but it has been the world's best history.Mankind has strive through hundreds or years for a sense of entertaiment.....and....now,we reached THE prime era of it that is GAMING.....To tell you the truth, this is what got me into animation.....The gaming industry will keep on envolving and being better.......There is no best game YET,just good ones....the BEST one will come only when the GAME itself seemed like a whole NEW WORLD to a person.THAT will be one of man greatest acheivement in the HISTORY of Animation,Gaming and The World....

Imagination is much more important then knowledge...

Nicley said gamecon. Very poetic.

Years ago when I was in high school I wanted to get into gaming for some of the same reasons. Now my job allows me to branch animation with emerging technologies.

Budgets are higher, teams are double the size they used to be, and the quality is constantly improving. It's gotten to the point that some cinematics in game mimic the work flow and quality of feature animation.

It's gotten to the point that some cinematics in game mimic the work flow and quality of feature animation.

The workflow I can understand but I honestly haven't played games in almost 10 years, and I played what I could afford which was stuff that was old even then...what are some titles to look out for with that quality of the actual animation?

Like I said, I am currently on Revelation. I just saw a TV advertisement for"The Justice League"but most likely it will not come out for my platform.

Of course, everyone knows

Of course, everyone knows that now there are hundreds of different video games that can be listed endlessly, but for me the favorite is CS GO. There is no doubt that many will support me with my choice, but not everyone knows how to capitalize on this and I want to help with this. If you visit https://csgobettings.com/best-skin-betting-sites/, you can find the best top-level betting platforms that I use to make a profit every day, without wasting a lot of time and effort. It seems to me that this is suitable even for students who always need money.

Thanks for the information!

It's fascinating to observe how the video game industry has achieved remarkable success, arguably rivaling even the animation industry. Both have their unique strengths, contributing significantly to the entertainment world. The popularity of video games can be attributed to their interactive nature, immersing players in virtual worlds and allowing them to shape their experiences. On the other hand, animations have a long-standing history of captivating audiences with compelling storytelling and visually stunning artistry. Each industry has its distinct appeal, and they complement each other in the broader landscape of entertainment. For more insights, you can check out this link: https://www.vpesports.com/betting/.

You're right, the video game

You're right, the video game industry is improving every year and winning the hearts of millions of fans around the world.

The World Cup soccer experience is truly captivating. I've found this game to be quite engaging. While I've had some challenges in defeating Germany on this platform, it's interesting enough to keep me coming back for more matches. The competitiveness of the game can definitely be a motivator. On a different note, I hope the knee injury isn't affecting your enjoyment of the matches. Speaking of enjoyment, it's important to remember responsible entertainment, especially considering the rise of online activities like gcash gambling https://gcashgambling.ph/ . Let's continue to appreciate the excitement of the World Cup while also being mindful of our choices.
