looking for anyone that has an opinion on women in the animation and gaming fields

I am currently writing a school paper on women in the animation and gaming industries. I am looking to talk to anyone that has an opinion on the jobs for a woman: i.e. Where jobs might be located? Whether it is easier or harder to get a job in the animation or gaming fields for a woman than a man? What is considered and needed for the job? Who would have to work harder - a man or a woman? or are the 'difficulty' levels the same for both? Are there feminist issues? How many women are in the animation and/or gaming fields vs. the number of men? Or anything else pertaining to something related to the afore-mentioned subjects. Anything that anyone can give me would be absolutely wonderful and helpful.

Thank you
Kida

I wrote a paper on this a couple of years ago but for the life of me I can't find it. Check www.womengamers.com and herinteractive.com who have some basic facts in their FAQ, also SMU has an female in games scholarship. In terms of the exploitation of women in games look into Grand Theft Auto and Laura Croft stuff, I also believe that the Barbie Video game is still one of the all time top sellers for video games for girls, the same company that mattel got to design it made the Leisure Suit Larry games, I thought that was a bit disturbing. This has been written about a lot in the papers and if you just google it you will find quite a bit.

Where jobs might be located?

Whether it is easier or harder to get a job in the animation or gaming fields for a woman than a man?

Provided a woman has the necessary skills, I'm guessing it's easier for her, because most of these companies want diversity.

What is considered and needed for the job?

skill, talent, passion

Who would have to work harder - a man or a woman?

a man

or are the 'difficulty' levels the same for both?

[I don't understand the question.]

Are there feminist issues?

How many women are in the animation and/or gaming fields vs. the number of men?

I'd guess one woman for every five to ten men.

Or anything else pertaining to something related to the afore-mentioned subjects. Anything that anyone can give me would be absolutely wonderful and helpful.

You might want to check out this site: http://www.womeninanimation.org/

You might want to read up on female animators like Lotte Reiniger and Faith Hubley.

This very topic was discussed a few days ago by the Animation Guild. Here's the notes from that meeting.
